Would like opinions on My Book Idea?

The book title is Awaken the Phoenix, and is my attempt at putting a “Da Vinci Code” coating to 2012 and the New Age/ End of days theories.
Althought the book is based on fictional charaters and events, it also blend historical figures, events and organisation as to enable the story to project the idea , of a fictional meeting between all spiritual guides/messengers that have promised to return and the End of days.
Would love to hear what your opinions are.
Many Thanks

  1. Whoa that sounds really cool! I’ve been a massive fan of historical mystery/adventures for a long time, but I’ve never been able to think of enough facts or puzzles to be able to write one.
I love the incorporation of the two ideas, but you need to be careful if you’re writing about people that are still living, as they can sue you if you “damage their name”. And any historical references you use HAVE to be correct, or you’ll end up with a bunch of history freaks (myself included) who will be incredibly annoyed with you. ;D
I think its a great idea, as long as you don’t copy the Dan Brown’s style, and only if it comes out before 2012, otherwise I think it would lose its markability.
Good luck and happy writing! 🙂

  2. Dear Mistletoe,
Even though I don’t subscribe to the 2012 hoax, I do like a good story. Likewise Dan Browns work was an intricately woven hoax, but, I enjoyed Da Vinici Code very much. It sounds like you have an exciting concept for your book and I’m sure it will make for a great story.
BTW, one thing that added to success of Da Vinici Code is that Dan Brown described so many recognizable places (with great detail) in his book that people have made it a ritual to visit those places. For instance, when my wife and I celebrated or 35th wedding anniversary we took a trip to Paris and visited all of the places (well almost all of them) in the Da Vinici Code. It was a lot of fun. We didn’t book a tour, though, instead we had a lot more fun discovering them on our own. Brown’s descriptions were so vivid that we had no trouble finding them at all. Also, we actually had read the illustrated edition which contained pictures of many of the places in his book.
Anyway, Good luck and I hope you have great success with your book. It sounds great!

  3. I’m actually quite interested and thought of something similar. I just wonder would this book be supporting or against the 2012 doomsday theory. I could really cope with either one. Of course you’d have to start writing it soon because 2012 will get here before you know it.
If you’re serious on it, leave me an E mail or something because I’ve been investigating this theory for quite some time. You could use anything from strange artifacts and megalithic structures around the world to star movements and Precession of the Equinox to support the claim.
Like I said, I thought about the same thing. I just wonder if I should incorporate aliens into the idea or a high civilization of Atlantians.
However, you would need to know a lot about the language system which, sadly I’m not quite established with. Using ancient writings could help in the theory all the more. Like Dan Brown using San Greil/Sang Reil = Holy Grail/Royal Blood. There may be other similarities involved in ancient languages a scripts passed down.
Like I said, I thought about doing this before too, however my idea was less about 2012 and more about an advanced civilization prior to 4,500 BC. But just the same, with what research I’ve done I think the ancient civilizations knew about 2012, not necessarily about doomsday, but the date was probably very significant.
