Wiccan Spells and Rituals?

I’ve been reading about the book of shadows and about the spells and rituals that people put in it. But i don’t understand why people bother with them because spells don’t really work??? right??? Does it just make you feel something spiritual when you do a spell? Whats the point? (Im not mocking the craft, just interested)

I pretty much have to agree with what has been said above. Every religion has it’s rituals. Those rituals help shape your focas and intention. “Crafting a spell” is a ritual. It does the sme thing. We are not talking stage magic here. There is no hocus-pocus whizbang pull a rabbit out of a hat within Wicca. And and by the way, it is hard work and takes practice (so does stage magic for that matter). And as my teacher once said, “While Magic works, so does penicillian.” Meaning that you would be a fool to rely only on Magic… Read more »

Wicca does not = Witchcraft; Wicca is a religion, there is so much more to it than spells. Ritual, in Wicca, is more about religion than spells. You are entitled to your opinion, but in my opinion, spells do work and have worked. Of course, what I understand to be a spell or magic is far from how fiction and rumor paints them. But here is some examples of how spells are rooted in reality: – meditation & creative visualization (mental programming; self-hypnosis toward achieving goal) – chanting (neurolinguistic programming; affirmations) – burning incense (aromatherapy; sents trigger the mind) –… Read more »

Wicca is not about spells.

There are a variety of reasons why people use spells. Sometimes it is because they work, and sometimes it is because they have deluded themselves into thinking they will work.

No one works a spell conscious of the fact “this isn’t going to work.” That’s just a waste of time.

Just because you have either no experience or no success with spells doesn’t mean they don’t work. If you have proper study and practice properly, they will work for you.

Seems a lot of people expect “magic” to work like in fairy tales =) But it is more psychological than that. It is like a prayer, but it also helps you to focus your mind on the thing you are “crafting”. You become more aware of what you are doing and what is going on around you concerning that particular point. So you are more likely to work harder to obtain it.

Spells and rituals are just like prayers but with props. Just as in Catholicism where you pray to different saints for different situations the same is true in wicca (only with gods). They have worked for me but not always in the way I was expecting or intending. People follow wicca and practice witchcraft for the same reason any one chooses to practice a religion or set of spiritual ethics. It’s a path of guidance and spiritual enlightenment and I think that everyone needs a something to believe in.

Its just like saying a prayer. It makes people feel like they have done what their religion asks of them and gives them a sense of fufillment.
