  1. Serotonin is a chemical in the brain that can change how your brain creates emotions. Basically, in a nutshell, serotonin is the chemical of emotions; it regulates and controls emotions, and helps you to sleep.
If there is a Serotonin deficit, then you can become depressed.
Dopamine also is a chemical that can cause mental disorders, when in deficit.

  2. Because dopamine and serotonin control mood and emotion more so than any other chemical. And these two chemicals are usually the root cause of many psychological disorders.
