Why isn't God speaking?

I am having a crisis of faith. I became a Christian at a very young age, and always had faith in the ultimate wisdom of God. Over the past several years, I have questioned my beliefs in order to strengthen them and make them my own.
Recently, however, I have come to a realization. I am 28 years old, and in all that time I have never heard God speak. I understand that he doesn’t communicate with a loud, booming voice from Heaven. But, I suppose that is part of the problem.
God’s methods of communicating with man amount to little more than a cosmic guessing game. He supposedly has a plan for my life, but refuses to tell me what it is. I ask. He doesn’t answer.
Why is it always a game with God? Why does he resort to “spiritual revelations” that are as ambiguous as a daily horoscope? Why does he refuse to make things clear or to communicate effectively with the ones He loves?
Why does he keep us guessing?
I suppose I should add a few things. Yes, I have accepted Jesus as my Savior. Yes, I do attend a Bible-believing church. Yes, I do have a daily quiet time in the Word.
My father, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather were all Pastors. I know what I am supposed to do, and I have heard all of the generic Christian answers that are taught in Sunday School. That’s not what I am looking for.

  1. Both God and Jesus have taken an oath of silence.
They want you to believe, but they want you to believe without hearing from them directly, that way they can be sure your belief is holy.
Also they want to hear fervent praise from you every damn Sunday — in a church. It has to be in a church with a congregation otherwise it doesn’t count.

  2. in faith I dont guess, in my daily life is my blundering if any at all, my prayers are directed to that I know, and accordingly I know he responds

  3. Do you read and study his Word daily ? Pray and communicate with him daily ? Go to a bible believing church to be fed his truthful Word ? Romans 10:17 ” So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Is Jesus your savior ? Do you hand out salvation leaflets , witness with the church? Talk this with the people you mentioned ? Keep praying. James 5:16 ” The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

  4. Do you mean to say, that you have never read the Word of God?
What God said, He is saying today, if you have ears to hear.
Have you ever gone to a Church service where the preacher was anointed by the power of the Holy Spirit?
I don’t think it’s a problem of God not speaking; I think it’s a problem of you not listening.
You need to find a living faith.
Listen to a few testimonies about what God is doing in other parts of the world……….

  5. Humans today don’t have as strong a relationship with God as the humans in first books did, not too long after those two got kicked out of the garden. All we have is His word, the Bible.
If you contrast then and now, you’ll notice that there are a lot more distractions and temptations now than back then. As time went on, humans eventually pushed Him away.

  6. What you are experiencing is quite common. When there is a drought, trees grow their roots the most to find water and in the same way when we feel distant to God we search for Him at a deeper level. Many great people of God have gone through a time in the desert but it is intended to be for a season not a perpetual situation as you describe.
God speaks through circumstances, hunches, people and his Word. One of the annoying things about parenthood is that the kids that do the wrong thing all the time get most of the attention. This injustice applies equally with God I have come to find. If God has little reason to bring correction into your life you won’t hear much and he is not interested in micromanaging your life – he wants you to use initiative and try some stuff. Find the boundaries by crossing them occassionally and don’t live so safely.
You know… just reading this God is saying something to you… stay alert and keep the faith.

  7. My guess is you are not in bible study and you do not have a consistent prayer life. God absolutely “speaks” to us; through His word.

  8. God does speak. He may not speak to you face to face. But if you diligently seek Him, read your Bible every day, pray without ceasing, go to the Church regularly and worship with faith, listen to the message, word of prophecy, Word of exhortation, the message is there certainly. Still if you have problem consult your Pastor, who can counsel you.
I had the similar problem. Whatever I did was a failure; people cheated me; I became a pauper. Whereas people of this world, non Christians, cheating people were prosperous, they had no problems. Why should the Children of God suffer? That week, on Sunday, I had been to the Church and heard the message on Psalm 73. It says “till I went into the Sanctuary.” Going into the Sanctuary means Praying earnestly. I had my answer. Read this Psalm and the answer is there for you.
    May God Bless you

  9. Are you baptized in the Holy Spirit and have the gift of praying in tongues or in the Spirit. If you do try praying in the Spirit for fifteen minutes and hear or discern the words from God. It may come in an audible voice or an impression in your spirit or mind or some other way that God may communicate with you. If you have received some direction from God I suggest you pray longer in tongues to build yourself up (1 Corinthians 14:4, 2 Timothy 1:6,7, Jude 20) to hear Him better. This has worked for me. God bless you.

  10. “Over the past several years, I have questioned my beliefs in order to strengthen them and make them my own.”
that’s where you “crisis of faith” comes from.
you are bringing it to yourself, you are questionning, you are TESTING “god”.
ask yourself, is it working? are you beliefs strengthening?
you claim to be “questioning your beliefs in order to strengthen them and make them your own” then you complain that you are losing them ?
you are contradicting yourself, can you see it?
you are using your mind against you, so to speak.
keep going with what you’re doing if what you want is becoming an skeptical atheist, a materialist.
in a time when scientists are speaking publicly about the divinity of reality, a christian is losing faith in god?
a few examples of modern prophets :
jill bolte taylor, “my stroke of insight”

i cant tell you any more than i would tell a materialist who is argueing against the existence of divinity.
“show me the proof” — “you are the proof, everything is the proof, use your brain as it is meant to be”.
Also, what arrogance is that, demanding that god SPEAKS to you?
    what the F., frankly?
you want a red carpet and a host of angels playing trumpets too?
god speaks to you in everything that happens and is. If you want to hear his/her/its voice, i suggest you watch a cartoon or something, or read the bible ! It is a most childish request.
You do not test your own higher self, your soul or divinity itself, it doesnt work that way.
You are open and grateful and willing and welcoming of its essence and awareness, or you arent. Hard-testing, demanding, whining do not work.
Ask yourself why you are having that attitude, what feelings are underlying this behavior. Pulling a tantrum at the spiritual father?! You can shut your door to that awareness of the divine, you are FREE to do so, that’s what your question’s answer amounts to. You can become a total unbeliever if you chose to. That’s free will.
You gotta believe in order to see. It doesnt mean you have to be a hardcore total blind believer in order to see proofs. It means that if you actively willingly disbelieve, it is given to you according to what you are asking. If you do not want to see proofs then you wont, that’s simple.
Just believe a tiny bit, it can even be playful, leave the door open a little and see what happens. Give god a chance.
And lay low, be humble. You dont command god. You cant, you wont.
    you say:
“Why is it always a game with God? Why does he resort to “spiritual revelations” that are as ambiguous as a daily horoscope? Why does he refuse to make things clear or to communicate effectively with the ones He loves?
Why does he keep us guessing?”
Spiritual revelations are not “ambiguous”. You are using your analytical mind to nitpick. Watch the jill bolte taylor video, she lays it out beautifuly. You’re using the wrong tool for the job and you’re doing it out of spite or some other negative feeling.
Things are clear and he communicates effectively.
What makes you think that “communicating effectively” means catering to your choice of communication channels?
He doesnt keep you guessing. You keep second guessing him/her/it. You are willingly doubting, judging, denying. You choose to believe that your analytical mind has anything to do with knowing reality. Even physics have proven this wrong more than a century ago.
