Why in almost all depictions of the Buddha are his earlobes very long?

What does that mean? Were his earlobes really that long?

  1. I sawyour question and know the answer…
It’s because back then, it was common to wear very heavy earrings.
This eventually pulled the earlobes down.
Buddha was raised a Hindu and was a Prince, before he took off from the palace.
