His Holiness The Dalai Lama Spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhists is in sanctuary, in France while “his people” die protesting. Should he not be there in Tibet and take the same risks as his people as did the great Dr Martin Luther King and Gandhi. ?
Exile-Sanctuary ?? He is not in Tibet is he ? I am merely comparing the leadership styles. If he went back to Tibet it would fill world headlines and benefit his cause and that of his people. “Buddhists dont do confrontation” do you mean -“THE LEADER ” of Buddhists dont do confrontation?
Sexy Thor> If you think “travelling the world telling people” is more effective than his returning to Tibet you must be in cloud cuckoo land. If Dr King had sat in the comfort (exile) of a calm environment in France do you think his people would have fought his cause, i doubt it. He commands reverence equal to if not greater than that to the Dalai Lama. Millions were and still are inspired by Dr King. Thats not disrespecting the enormous love and respect for the Dalai Lama.

  • Tibet is currently under Chinese control. China considers it historically a part of their country. If the Dalai Lama were to show his face there he would be arrested and imprisoned. He is much more effective if he is free.

  • He is more use to his people doing what he does. You comparisons are not valid as the circumstance and the political issues and positions are different

  • I don’t question his bravery for a second. If sacrificing himself would do any good…I’ll bet he’d do it.

  • He wouldn’t last behind the border for 10 minutes. He isn’t in sanctuary. He’s exiled.

  • I doubt if he would end up in prison but he would probably be under house arrest with no freedoms to lead anything.

EDIT:- I doubt very much if the Chinese would execute him or imprison him in a typical jail as it would end up being a political nightmare for them. They rely on the west to make money so they would have to be diplomatic in their approach. There would be too much political fallout if they were seen to be heavy handed. It would be quite easy for the Chinese to imprison him in Tibet but not allow him access to his people or the press.

  • He would get arrested and probably killed. He is doing much more for his people by traveling the world and telling of the atrocities committed by the Chinese
