Why do you think so many urban legends claim that Albert Einstein was a Christian?

Considering how many times they’ve been discredited, why don’t such stories ever seem to go away?

  1. Wasn’t he Jewish? I’ve never heard him be called Christian.
I’m not saying he was a practicing Jew, but that apparently he had some Jewish ancestry.

  2. Hopefully this answers everyone’s question:
A knowledge of the existence of something we cannot penetrate, of the manifestations of the profoundest reason and the most radiant beauty – it is this knowledge and this emotion that constitute the truly religious attitude; in this sense, and in this alone, I am a deeply religious man. (Albert Einstein)
I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it. (Albert Einstein, 1954)

  3. Because Christians seem to think it lends them credibility to point to famous scientists and point out that they’re religious, as if to say “if THIS guy agrees with us, we must have valid points.” It’s a strange dichotomy wherein religious people, peddlers of pseudoscience, and other conspiracy theorists try to squeeze in some kind of scientific reference to vindicate their assertions, but are then prepared to totally dismiss any and all OTHER scientific evidence that does NOT agree with them.

  4. Once an urban legend starts nothing can stop it. 98% of the emails I get claiming certain things are true are not. Just urban legends.
