Why do so many people see shamanism and other ancestral religions as satanism?

Im Irish and i like to explore my heritage. i sometimes practice shamanism/meditation. and i promise i dont pray to satan! why do so many people think that ancient religions are for the sole purpose of worshiping satan?
and answer # 10, im pretty sure im not trying to talk to demons when i meditate and try to contact dead relatives.

God and the Devil are backwards. http://www.joyofsatan.com/ The Origins of Satanism Satanism is not a Christian invention Satanism predates Christianity and all other religions Satanism is not about spooks, goblins, vampires, Halloween monsters or other related entities Satanism is not about “evil” Satanism is not an invention of, or a “reaction” to Christianity Satanism is not a creation of Anton LaVey Satanism is not about death True Satanism is about elevating and empowering humanity to reach equality with the Gods, which was our True Creator (Satan’s) intention “IN THE SECRET OF MY KNOWLEDGE THERE IS NO GOD BUT ME” -SATAN… Read more »

If you try to connect with the spirit world, you are trying to contact demons. If they seem friendly, that would be a familiar spirit (demon.) It is not safe. It is not wise to “play” with the spirit world. It takes your time away from the living God. You do not have to “pray” to Satan to become a part of his world. Any religion (shamanism, yoga, etc.,) that has you open your mind, you will need to be careful and not let your brains fall out. When you meditate, what do you think about. There is meditating on… Read more »

That often confuses me when religious folk say things like that; because these ancestral religions / practises existed before Christianity.

You'll never guess.

Christians started that rumor in order to persecute non christians, and to force them to convert. Satan does not belong to pagan religions, Satan is a christian belief.

As Christianity spread the church had to find a way to talk down the competition. Since the Bible does have proscriptions against idolatry, these were leveraged against the pre-Christian religions of Europe and elsewhere.

You are not a Satanist, don’t listen to that dribble. I am Irish as well, and I enjoy my Celtic heritage. Most of our shamanistic beliefs and rituals are not Satanist, but actually pagan. The pagans believed in multiple Gods or Goddesses. Meditation is also not Satanist, otherwise Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, and other religious groups would practice “Satanism.” Many people believe ancient religions are savage, barbaric, and inhumane. But, if you think about it, early Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are also just as “barbaric” and “savage” Also, it could also not be they believe it is worshiping Satan, but perhaps… Read more »

easy way is always mined

it greatly simplifies the world into us vs them, good vs bad, etc.

no need to scout for different opinions, respect different religions etc.

There is only black and white. There is no such thing as gray. Gray is what people who live in the black tell themselves to feel better.

Because people are generally ignorant, don’t like to explore and learn things for themselves, and are fearful of change. Most rites of modern, organised religion have their basis in shaman and pagan ritual and belief. People don’t like to acknowledge things that may change their feeling of security. Humans are creatures of habit.

Lack of education and the need to talk about things they know nothing about
