A moon is a moon is a moon. It is not any kind of symbol unless you wish it to be. Since the people were originally nomads, I would not begrudge them their precious moon.

Not all mosque’s have them,,There is no basis in sharee’ah for taking the crescent or star as a symbol of the Muslims. Well. Because god is unoriginal. He based himself on the gods of others but made himself better because he’s god….

Basically all religion we know today has its ancestry in ancient religions.
