Who was a greater spiritual teacher, Jesus Christ or Gautama Buddha?

Jesus was a great guy sure, and so was Buddha, but who was better? I say Buddha because he was more patient, and because he didn’t start a religion with selfish purposes. He said clearly that his goal was to eliminate suffering. Jesus didn’t even start a religion I don’t think. It’s a hard call, but I’d say Buddha.

  1. More wars was fought in jesus’ name and because of this he is a failed Messiah(one of the prophecies said that he will end all war lol), buddha made more sense to me and his followers are more peaceful and tolerant..

  2. Jesus is God and far greater than anyone that you can even imagine let alone than someone you say existed why is buddha still in his grave Jesus defeated death

  3. God is a principle. You have to know the principle and then you can get the right road in life.
Who is Guru? When will he come into your life… and many other questions must be wandering in your thoughts.
You can read more about the same in the following link :-

  4. I say Jesus, when a plane is going down or when real tragedy occurs, no matter where you are on the planet people call and scream out,”Jesus Christ” He is the One to call on for help and deep down we all know it.

  5. “Jesus was a great guy sure”
Jesus was not a great guy. Maybe you should read the Bible and have a think about it.

  6. Buddha for the win, he believes that we all can achieve everlasting happiness and there isn’t anything about an invisible man in the sky.

  7. Both were great in their own realm. The greatness is only relative depending on the life during those days, the circumstances, the behavioural pattern of the people, the attitudes, intellectual level of followers etc etc. Hence comparisons really do not mean anything.
Every spiritual teacher is a great person in himself, as long as he is working for the betterment of mankind.

  8. what they taught was very similar–the discipline of the Way
the willingness of Jesus to suffer in his own person is quite moving
yet Gautana had a fuller life, with riches and a wife, so it is a hard call
some of Christ’s teaching are extremist, far from a middle path
    a hard call
in a hard place, i would prefer Jesus

  9. Neither of them, the tibetans had slaves, and the Dalai Lama acepts money from religous leaders to support them, as it was the case of Ashahara shooko that paid him 1 million bucks for his support.

  10. To ask such a question shows a complete ignorance of who Jesus Christ really was.
“God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.”
    Hebrews 1:1-3
“He (Christ) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.
For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross. ”
    Colossians 1:15-20
“For in Him (Jesus) dwells all the fullness of the Godhead ”
    Colossians 2:9
To consider Jesus as merely a teacher is to completely misunderstand how He represented Himself.
He plainly declared Himself to be God in the flesh.
He called Himself “The Light of the World” “The Resurrection and the Life”; He said heaven and earth would pass away, but His words would never pass away.
He was either the Son of God, or He was a raving lunatic.
To regard Him as just another spiritual teacher is to simply show a complete lack of understanding.

    • what silly discussions you humans have – no wonder it takes you eons to learn – no wonder every prophet, spirtual teacher that has comes here to this Earth – suffers so greatly. You’re minds are so unable to grasp the reality of life, instead you live here on an illusion. Why must one always be better than the other – such a human way of thinking… why can’t you see that they are equal.
but hence all is to change soon – once again…

  11. Jesus. You are correct in saying that he did not want to start a religion. He didn’t. Neither did Buddha. However, there is one huge difference in their teachings. Jesus taught you should love your neighbor as your self or as God loves you. Jesus’s teaching focuses on how we should treat our neighbors a ourselves. Jesus was concerned how we interact or treat each other. Jesus taught about life.
Buddha was concerned about self. Yes, there is a love and care for all things, but if these things get in the way, you must kill them. It’s all about you getting over your “self”. The community has nothing to do with his teachings. Therefore, Jesus comes out in front. Amen

  12. Jesus, for he is the only way to get Closer to God and the key to the Kingdom.
Buddha’s teaches are from Jesus…turn the other cheek, love thy neighbor, reap what you sow….thou shall not kill, look at your own mistakes first before you speak of someone else’s mistake, help those in need, teach the children, take care of the land and the land will take care of you, give a man a fish he eats for a day, but teach a man to fish and he eats for a life time….
These are all from Jesus, Moses, and even Noah’s time..
Jesus’ purpose on this earth was to sacrifice…he sacrifice is own life for you and me. For all those that sin, he has made a way to be saved.
Buddha was just a man, Jesus was a messiah…

  13. Jesus Christ was a greater spiritual teacher because he had direct contact with his father Jehovah God. Jesus didn’t start a religion with selfish purposes, those that arose from within the early Christian congregation and twisted the scriptures did.

  14. Well Buddha didn’t rise from the dead, nor did Confucius or Zoroaster. Muhammad didn’t fulfill detailed prophecy. Alexander the Great didn’t raise the dead or heal the sick. And though there is far less reliable information written about them, they are believed in.
The scripture is right when it says in 1 Pet. 2:7-8, “This precious value, then, is for you who believe. But for those who disbelieve, ‘The stone which the builders rejected, this became the very corner stone,’ and, ‘A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense’; for they stumble because they are disobedient to the word, and to this doom they were also appointed.” (NASB).

  15. My friend
Jesus lay down His life that you , and all man kind might live eternally.
Jesus took your place for the sin you are born into, and the sin you and I commit each day. There is but ONE GOD, in 3 persons,
( Father , Son , and Holy Spirit.)
If you accept the free gift of Jesus sacrifice you are saved from your sin. A not guilty verdict.
Buddha, was a good teacher, but he did not give himself for you, nor could he ever, because he too was born into sin as a son of Adam and Eve. A sinner ! as we all are.
Buddha is dead, and because he never accepted Jesus he is now in Hell, and the lake of fire is his final place for eternity.
Be wise and SEE the person of Jesus Christ, and receive His gift of eternal life.
Jesus rose from the dead, Buddha did not.
Buddha was not God, and for his deception to man kind he will suffer a greater punishment for leading Gods sheep astray. This is also for every pastor, priest, and clergy who misrepresents the word of God.
All false teaching will be abolished.
God said ” thou shall have no other gods before me. ”
God said ” This is my Son (Jesus) in whom I am well pleased.”
Jesus said ” I am the way, I am the Truth, and The Life, no one comes to the Father but by me ”
Jesus said ” I come that you might live, and because I go to the Father , these things I do, you shall do greater.”
    peace to you my friend

  16. Does it matter. Both were teaching good values. Something we need more of today. If learning about Jesus or Buddha helps you be a better person, more kinder, and more at peace, so be it.

  17. obviously Jesus Christ. The true son of God. buddha is in no way a match to Jesus. all i want to say is that Jesus is the living God. buddha is in the grave waiting for the judgement day to be judged by the saviourJjesus Christ. As rightly said we can see the Father only through Jesus Christ. GOD BLESS U’LL!!!

  18. Although buddha is named “the enlightened”. He isn’t. For him to become a god, he have to meditate under the tree for a long time. Jesus was claimed a Messiah when he was as soon as born. There aren’t any evidence of the power of buddha while the words in the revalaion of the bible reveals the truth and now it is happening just it is said.

  19. I will go with Buddha. Of course Buddha was not the god but nor was Mr Jesus., he was son of god(as many say) not the god him self and by the way luke. Buddha was also the born messiah, read the books on buddha if u can please.
well as per the Jesus came back to life fund a. why dose he have to die in first place. just to prove what that “my god dad is awesome fallow him”. that is dumb.
Buddha is also GOD(as per Hinduism the ninth incarnation of Vishnu pls read books again) . his teaching where crystal clear unlike Jesus whose is very confusing and some where stupid(four gospel four different mention).
his teaching where simple and made us understand the mortal world desire and kept us away from those 9 sins Christan talk about. He said “all life is precious, so respect them all”
he came way back before even Jesus was even created.
He went for nirvana. because he was borne as human.
