• Tenzin Gyatso-His Holiness the Dalai Lama. I’m a Buddhist and a Vajrayana Buddhist at that so I’m definitely biased. I really don’t know anything about the history of the pope so I can’t say anything about him. I’m not a huge fan of what fundamental Catholicism preaches.

Aryan Princess, how many Tibetans do you know and how many have you actually spoken with? Your documentaries can be just as swayed as you think the media. He was 15 when he was kicked out of Tibet how big of a dictator could he have been as a teenager? Also, did you know that in 2001 he removed himself as the political leader of Tibet and encouraged and saw that a democratic vote and change to the governement took the place of him? He is solely a religious leader now and has admitted that some of Tibet’s past he didn’t agree with and wanted to change. Sounds like a horrible dictator to me sweetheart (yeah, that’s sarcasm)

  • Probably the Dalai Lama is more popular but not for the right reasons. He has famous friends and is a master of public relations, but he too has been involved with the CIA and in oppressing those Buddhists that do not agree with him. People just follow the media which loves DL but I have seen some documentaries about him that make one wonder.

Edit: Kaileym — yes you are biased. I know a lot of Tibetan Buddhists who are totally ignorant of even the Buddha and pin all their hopes on Dalai Lama which is ridiculous. I also know a leading Buddhist expert who told me that there is no place for the Dalai Lama in any Buddhist scripture. Also, he is still the head of Tibet Govt in exile and has his own bodyguards and his own govt. It is against any religion to have a spiritual head who is also the political head. Plus do you know how he has treated the Shugden Buddhists? I personally do like the Dalai Lama and so I would chose him over the pope. But Buddhists who worship him are just as brainwashed as Christians who worship the Pope. The Dalai Lama is not perfect and I dare you to answer any of my questions in this regard.

  • His name is Tenzin Gyatso…

and I would much prefer to meet him. I have no desire at all to meet the Pope.

  • I have not had the pleasure of having met either man, however, I have met someone who lived with the Dalai Lama for many years, and I’m going with the Pope here.

  • Dalai Lama. The Pope is a leader of Catholics. What he says applies to the Church and rarely to non-members. However the Dalai Lama’s wisdom goes out to anyone who listens.

  • The current Dalai Lama is one of the finest minds of our time. I would so like to meet him. The Pope, not so much.

  • The Dalai Lama. Despite being an Atheist, I really like the message of peace and understanding promoted by Buddhist teachings.
