Whats the religion where people alter their consciousness to reach transcendent states?

Like with rhythmic drumming, chanting, mediating, and entheogenic substances.

  1. Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism, Taoism, Shintoism, and others. But the drugs are not a big part of it; this practice is only employed by a small number of spiritual aspirants from these traditions.

  2. Most religions were begun like that. The some of the early mormons were called seekers becasue they came for the religious experiences they heard were going on. Those experiences were the result of entheogins.

  3. Lots of religions used to do this
    “altering consciousness” is another way of saying they got high off drugs or plants.
    Indians would eat peyote and then supposedly be able to see spirits.
    people used to do opium I think during the times the Old Testament was written.
    I dont know if people do that so much anymore, but it was common when a lot of the common religions were coming into existence
