What's the point of reincarnation if you can't remember your past lives?

I don’t see a difference between living a single life, and living a thousand lives but only remembering one.

In hindsight, depending on your religion or what teachings you accept, the ultimate human goal is to attain a perfect state in humanity so as to be freed from the cycle/chain of human life and our souls released into paradise/heaven.

I read writings on reincarnation before. They say the reason you do not remember past lives is that if you were 100% sure you are reborn you might give up on life very easily thinking, aw forget life for next time around I may come back as a great celebrity or star ship commander. One dynasty in China had that attitude when the Mongols were crashing through their borders, just became lethargic as such and let themselves be conquered.

good for nothing

Reincarnation is a spiritual concept, not a physical concept. A soul is reincarnated to rectify sins done in past lifetimes. Whichever sin you desire most is said to be the sin you were sent down to fix in your lifetime.

the first two answers are also correct.
the point of multiple incarnations is that we must experience all things. this can not be done in only one lifetime. you must experience being a king and a slave and a rich man and a poor woman etc.
during each lifetime you remember nothing from past lives. usually. some people do. during the space in between, when you are on the other side you will remember all of them.
at any point of any life time in which you come to be on the path to enlightenment, and you die, you will then remember all previous life times during your next incarnation. this is so you will not have to start over from scratch in your search for enlightenment. as this is a very tedious and time consuming endeavor, and often requires several life times to achieve.

New Creation

There is no point. Also, for the record nirvana does not mean bliss or heaven.
It means the blowing out of the flame of desire.
The entire purpose of the karma/reincarnation cycle is to rid oneself of desire and cease to be. Wanting bliss just flies in the face of the whole thing.
The laws of karma and reincarnation are man made and wretched.
If you travel to a places in the world where people truly believe, you will find the true nature of it and how it holds people in it’s grip.
Thanks to lack of education and with the help of men like Deepak Chopra,
Westerners have a very watered down idea of it.
Take for example a person that has caused much destruction – Hitler, for example, as his name always comes up. Karma and reincarnation teaches that upon his death, the bad karma he accumulated goes on into another life but the recipient has no idea of the weight they are carrying. Hitler’s soul could be reincarnated into another person, animal or insect. There are some people that wear mouth and nose coverings to avoid breathing someone in. (I’m not joking.)
In countries where karma rules the day and homeless children roam the street, other citizens do nothing to help them. Not because they are cruel but because the child has accumulated bad karma and they believe the sooner the child dies he can begin again. I saw a news article a few years back about a heartbroken mother that had lost her 13 year son to an early death. Just after the funeral, an iguana walked into her home. The photo showed her with tears rolling down her face as she held it – because she was convinced it was her son reincarnated.
I stronly suggest the book by Ravi Zacharais called “Jesus Among Other Gods”. He was raised in India and has a clear understanding of these things – and he takes strong offense to the tripe dished out by Deepak Chopra
