What's the fifference between a christian prophet and a psychic/medium?

In church prophets will do very un-organized readings for people and claim that it’s the holy spirit giving him or her the vision or instruction.
Sylvia brown also claims that the holy spirit works through her to giving people readings so whats the difference?
Oops, I mean difference so shut your lip!

  1. They both have track records on par with chance. I think Sylvia Brown’s been investigated while not nearly enough Christian prophets have been.
(ps, still gets me that the LDS leader is called a prophet and he’s elected – I could swear the definition of prophet is that you’re chosen by god)

    • the different is a prophet is a person that God speaks to about the futrue and only GOD know all, medium do not speak to the dead , nor know the furture. And to tell you the truth it is a abomination to the Lord to speak to the dead . these so called mediums and psdychic are really talking to you ready for this . Hold on to yourselves they are speaking to demons yes they had open the door to evil spirits. And the sad thing about this they dont even know it. Pam(Christian ps. God Words says that Jesus is the way the truth and the life get to know Him He love’s you and I do too.

  2. christian prophets usually focus on holy magic and healing spells, and gain a +2 bonus to wisdom.
psychics have telekinetic abilites and focus more on hampering their foes with spells like Slow, Confuse and Palmread. They gain a +2 bonus to Intelligence

  3. Well it may very well be your view for one. Another option might be the “holy spirit” is the defining key. Ultimately, I would think one would actually have to *be* Christian in order to be a “Christian prophet”.
Me, personally, there is no “holy spirit” talking to me or working through me for that matter. So maybe I’m the diet coke of psychic mediums? Just one calorie…not psychic enough.

  4. We do not have the authority to prophesies today. And even in Bible times not every believer had the gift of prophecy.
The christians today that claim to have that gift are deceived, or lying. Either way, it is not of God and it is not Biblical. The “prophecy” that people perform today isn’t even similar to the way people prophesied in the Bible.
The gift of prophesy has ceased.

  5. Prophets and psychics are one and the same. What makes them seem more truthful in their readings than those who use tarrot cards are their ability to go by thier hunches, visions, and/or intution independent of objects. This they claim to be Holy Spirit working through them. So there is no difference really.

  6. If a person is a prophet s/he is very much like a go between. Let’s say you do business with someone from an Asian country, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, whatever – this person doesn’t speak English, but you want him to quote you a price for a product etc.
You need an interpreter. This person’s job is to relate from you (that is not needed in the case of the prophet) to the other person; however, he also needs to inform you of what that Asian tells you verbatim. That is what the prophet does.
A prophet simply repeats exactly what he hears or what he is told to say – not one word more or less to the subject chosen for the message.
Not all who claim to be lead by the spirit must be believed, but their words and prophecies must be looked at in the light of the Bible and verified with what previously has been given.
The true prophet gets his message from God or Christ; the medium gets it from the demon angels.
1 John 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but examine the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
    Edit: @Joseph
I would be very wary of people acting as prophets in today’s churches.

  7. The Holy Spirit chooses to reveal and has revealed that which mankind needs to know in order to make choices to obey and love God.
The prophets did much more than warn of impending danger from the enemies of the LORD, they spoke toward the coming of a savior for all of mankind, Jesus Christ / Yahshua Ha Meshyiach. Modern day prophets of the LORD given to the church also speak warning from the snares laid down by the wicked one, the devil, and speak to encourage all to love and obey the LORD. They seek servanthood toward the LORD, Yahweh.
Familiar spirits speak to and through witches who have other motivations than giving God glory.
They seek power and to be their own masters. Some who would call themselves simply “psychics” are sometimes unaware of where they are getting their information and know not to glorify God in all things.

  8. OK, In the Case of a Prophet, whenever a person claims to be speaking for God (the essence of prophecy) the key is to compare what is said with what the Bible says. If God were to speak through a person today, it would be in 100% complete agreement with what God has already said in the Bible. God does not contradict Himself. 1 John 4:1 instructs us, “Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.” 1 Thessalonians 5:20-21 declares, “Do not treat prophecies with contempt. Test everything. Hold on to the good.” So, whether is it a “word from the Lord” or a supposed prophecy, our response should be the same. Compare what is said to what the Word of God says. If it contradicts the Bible, throw it out. If it agrees with the Bible, pray for wisdom and discernment as to how to apply the message (2 Timothy 3:16-17; James 1:5).
A Psychic/Medium does not nor have I ever seen one who did, Satan pretends to be kind and helpful. He tries to appear as something good. Satan and his demons will give a psychic information about a person in order to get that person hooked into spiritism, something that God forbids. It appears innocent at first, but soon people can find themselves addicted to psychics and unwittingly allow Satan to control and destroy their lives. Peter proclaimed, “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8). In some cases, the psychics themselves are deceived, not knowing the true source of the information they receive. Whatever the case and wherever the source of the information, nothing connected to spiritism, witchcraft, or astrology is a godly means of discovering information. How does God want us to discern His will for our life? God’s plan is simple, yet powerful and effective: study the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16-17) and pray for wisdom (James 1:5).
