What makes you, you or What is your consciousness?

If science found a way to download all things from your brain and place it in a computer, it will not be you. You will still be in your body but a copy of your mind is on a computer.

The only things I can think of that makes you, you is your specific hardward.
The specific brain cells you were born with. The specific way they communicate with each other. All these give you a unique I.D that can only be the consciousness of you.
My other thought was that you have a specific energy I.D that give you the consciousness that is you.

I don’t know. What do you think?

The “hardware” is programmed by the individual who has it, and in general it is called “metaphysics”. “Metaphysics is the foundation of philosophy. Without an explanation or an interpretation of the world around us, we would be helpless to deal with reality. We could not feed ourselves, or act to preserve our lives. The degree to which our metaphysical worldview is correct is the degree to which we are able to comprehend the world, and act accordingly. Without this firm foundation, all knowledge becomes suspect. Any flaw in our view of reality will make it more difficult to live.” http://www.importanceofphilosophy.com/Metaphysics_Main.html… Read more »

All conciousness is here to experience the physical realm to figure out for itself what it is. (i.e who you are) I also theorize that all conciousness are not unique in any way. We are all one and in the end, all conciousness return together to dwell with some sort of collective conciousness outside this universe. What I am saying is, you and your neighbor are no different, but the same. You both have the same conciousness and are both experienceing different perceptions of reality, which is why we all seem so unique. Maybe thats why there are sayings like… Read more »

I think what makes me what I am is not really my body. From what I understand I form my body over time according to my thoughts or my most inner desires for experience. So the body to me is more like a symbol. That makes this world a world of symbols and ideas. If we are all like this then the only thing that really seperates us is how we percieve our world. We all want different things, we desire different experiences, so we must each have a unique perception of the world.

I think the fact that we don’t know exactly what makes us who we are individually, makes us unique.
While we know certain components, main passions, and big points to our being it’s not always easy to figure out what ties it all together.
In fact, many of us will never know exactly what it is that keeps it all intact. Each of our minds work in separate ways of interpretation, so that small tie is what makes each of us different. No computer can copy that.
