What is your opinion of the link between lack of true meditation and ADD?

While reading some on Buddhism I found a correlation between my inability to truly focus on my breathing and the same type of inability to focus on reading. Is that ADD? What are your thoughts on the subject?

  1. Not sure if this helps but some ADD has been traced to sleep apnea and obstructed breathing. Maybe you should have a sleep study done. Good luck.

  2. I am not a doctor and cannot diagnose. You & your family know you best. But it takes a doctor to get a real diagnosis. There are other health problems that can mimic ADHD.
If you knew what ADD or ADHD was, you would be able to more easily rule it out. Try http://www.help4adhd.org/en/treatment/guides/dsm
If it sounds like you, get an opinion from 1 or more people that know you. Then take the issue to a doctor, he/she will need to examine you and take tests to rule out other health issues. For example, Lead poisioning, or even stress, can cause the symptoms.

  3. MEDITATION IS GREAT FOR YOU BUT WON’T TAKE CARE OF ADD. ADD IS AN ALLERGIC REACTION IN THE BRAIN FROM SUGER, ARTIFICAL SWEETENERS, RED DYE#40 OR PROCESS FOODS. GET OFF OF THOSE THINGS AND GET ON SOME NATURAL HERBS AND MINERALS AND YOU WILL NOT HAVE ADD AGAIN IN YOUR LIFE. I HAVE HELPED 3 PEOPLE THAT HAD ADHD AND ADD. ALL WITH SUCCESS AND FEELING GOOD. THE SIGHS OF ADD IS NOT FOCUSING ,BEING HIPER, MIND CAN’T STAY STILL, NO SLEEP, WANT TO DESTROY THINGS . IF YOU ARE EATING GOOD AND ARE HEALTHY, THEN YOU ARE JUST LACKING B- VIT’S. 4. I would say no. Most people have some degree of ADD meaning they have a hard time focusing. It’s especially hard to focus on something we aren’t totally into. If you have a hard time reading try doing two things at once. Underline, take notes, or even play with playdough in your hand while you read. I grew up with ADHD. I always got good grades until highschool becaue I can’t study. I can’t focus to read that long. I was unmedicated until a couple years ago, but it’s an antidepressant, not a med for ADHD. A lot of times it can be treated without medication, but it is a true condition, and it’s just that you need extra stimulation. Somtimes it’s even as simple as a food allergy. I know that if you tried to get me to focus on my breathing, it’s so boring (as in not stimulating enough) I’d be thinking of everything but that. I don’t know it could help some I suppose, but it’s certainly not the only way to treat it.
