what is the purpose of meditation?

ive been feeling kind of anxious as of late and a buddy of mine suggested i meditate to relieve some of it. ive been doing a few minutes a night and it seems to be working (i think lol) but what i would like to know is how does meditation work?

  1. You shut off everything going on around and just relax You think of relaxing things and then your body relaxes.

  2. My favorite way to meditate is by praying the rosary.
    The rosary is explained here:
    And here are some benefits:
The fifteen promises of Mary to Christians who recite the rosary:
    1. Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary shall receive signal graces.
    2. I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the Rosary.
    3. The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against Hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies.
    4. It will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.
    5. The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall not perish.
    6. Whoever shall recite the Rosary devoutly, applying himself to the consideration of its sacred mysteries, shall never be conquered by misfortune. God will not chastise him in His justice, he shall not perish by an unprovided death; if he be just, he shall remain in the grace of God and become worthy of eternal life.
    7. Whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall not die without the Sacraments of the Church.
    8. Those who are faithful to recite the Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and the plenitude of His graces; at the moment of death, they shall participate in the merits of the saints in Paradise.
    9. I shall deliver from Purgatory those who have been devoted to the Rosary.
    10. The faithful children of the Rosary shall merit a high degree of glory in Heaven.
    11. You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the Rosary.
    12. All those who propagate the Holy Rosary shall be aided by me in their necessities.
    13. I have obtained from my Divine Son that all the advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors the entire Celestial Court during their life and at the hour of death.
    14. All who recite the Rosary are my sons, and brothers of my only Son, Jesus Christ.
    15. Devotion to my Rosary is a great sign of predestination.
    God bless!

  3. The only true spiritual meditation consists of thinking about God and his word in the Bible (Joshua 1:8, Psalms 1:2; 63:6). Otherwise you are talking about meditation for the soul or the demonic.

  4. Meditation shows the grasping, obsessive and circular nature of the mind by just simply watching thoughts – and not getting drawn into them. It is very possible and also revealing to just watch thought. Thought cannot be stopped by will. However the effects of circular obsessive and painful thinking can be got around by just dispassionately watching thought. I learned a simple technique long ago from a well know meditation teacher that gave me the resource to calm an obsessive mind. I sat with eyes closed and imagined that I was watching all thoughts inside boxcars as they went past in front of me. Some were calm enough and some were exploding. I just let them move on past without any emphasis on one or another. The train can be quite long some days! A very little practice shows the absurdity of being jerked around by one’s own thoughts.

  5. Meditation stills and quietens the mind, as you breath deeply and focus on your breathing, the mind becomes still and your body, breathing and mind come into sync, you can also use meditation to focus on particular areas in your life and as your relaxed and in sync you may see the answer to the situation,it is also escapism to a quiet relaxed place for however long you wish taking you away from stress and tension..You feel more refreshed after meditating and your mind is clearer hope this helps you understand it a bit more and carry on doing it each time you meditate will be a diffrent experience..

  6. Meditation originates from spiritual practice such as the Daoist or the Buddhist belief. Meditation as part of the practice, the practitioner benefits in body purification, energy flow, karma transformation, via self-improvment toward Perfection.. The purpose of meditation as a Buddhist practice is discussed in ‘Falun Gong’. Advanced practice is discussed in Zhuan Falun.
Guided meditation demonstration video, meditation music, and books about Falun Gong are free to download from the URL listed below. If you need any help, contact a local practitioner in your area for free instructions.
About 100 million people practice in over 80 countries worldwide, enjoying a bill of good health through meditation and spiritual practice. Falun Gong is a unique Buddhist School, found in 1992 by Master Li Hongzhi in China. Falun Gong is an ancient practice for the body, mind, and spirit based upon the universal principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance. Falun Gong consists of five sets of powerful exercises.
Falun Gong, Tibetans, other Buddhists, and Christians have been persecuted in China. The most offensive human right violation is the organ harvesting from the Falun Gong practitioners in China.
