what is the difference between wicca and witch craft?

hello everybody, im a christian, and i want to study wicca and c what it means, i dont know if it’s bad or not, like witch craft. so please tell me the difference, and then i will know.

  1. Wicca is the name of a religion. Witchcraft is an activity. You can do one without the other as you choose.
What is the difference between Christianity and Gardening? One is a religion, the other is an activity.
(Please ignore the haters. They know not what they do.)

  2. answer: Wicca is a religion. Witchcraft is the practice of magic. Not all Wiccan’s are witches (though you’ll hear the term thrown around a lot. For many years the two terms seemed to mean the same thing).
Witchcraft nor Wicca are evil. There is no “black” or “white” magic – there is merely magic. Its the intent of the person working the energy that determines if it’s for positive or negative effect.
    Some advice:
1)Ignore the fundies saying you’ll go to hell and are opening yourself up to demons. They don’t believe in either.
2)Get the book: Wicca, a Guide for the Solitary Practitioner by Scott Cunningham (Amazon.com used books is a great resource)
3)Avoid Silver Ravenwolf, DJ Conway and most Llewellyn books
4)Do NOT pay for lessons over the internet. You can’t ask for references. Do NOT give out personal information to anyone over the internet. Get a PO Box.
    5)www.witchvox.com http://wicca.timerift.net
6)Learn and keep learning about various paths in paganism.
    7) get the book: “Drawing Down the Moon” by Margo Adler (an older book that’s a little dated, especially concerning Asatru but a good resource) – it gives an overview on a lot of pagan traditions.

  3. witch craft is a set of practices that are not tied directly to any particular religion. There are Christian monks who practice witchcraft, and voodoo practicioners, and there are, in fact, practitioners of witchcraft from every faith and culture.
Wicca is a specific (although quite varied) faith. Some Wiccans do practice witchcraft, while others don’t. Wicca draws on old pre-Christian traditions, 19th and early 20th century occultism, and a variety of other sources, depending on the specific tradition or belief. Wiccans, generally, adhere to the Wiccan Rede (or the 13 announced rules of the Council of Witches), and often worship a Goddess and a God.
So, Venn diagram time, alright? Witches and Wiccans are two separate circles, which overlap somewhat. Not all Wiccans are witches, and certainly not all witches are Wiccan.

  4. In short, Wicca is a religion. It’s all about praising the God and Goddess and trying your hardest to respect the earth, the universe and the cycles of everything. Those that follow Wicca are called Wiccan, whether they are male or female. Here’s the link to a great FAQ on Wicca: http://wicca.timerift.net/wicca101/index.shtml The whole site is pretty awesome.
Witchcraft is somewhat related to Wicca, however, it’s a practice. Witchcraft is the sometimes ritualized act of moving energy to a certain goal. It’s similar to general energy working, but it tends to be based on rituals and practices done by the Pagans from a long time ago. It’s constantly changing, though, and can include new ritual, too. Sometimes witchcraft is just called magick, but magick is a general term and witchcraft is just one type of magick. Practitioners of witchcraft are called Witches, again, both male or female.
Some Wiccans are witches. Others are not for many reasons (some just don’t like magick/witchcraft, for example). Some witches are Wiccan. Not nearly all are, though. People of any religion can practice witchcraft if they’d like to.
Hope that clears some things up for you.

  5. OK there is many different usages of the word “witchcraft” – for the contexts involving Spirituality, it is still a broad use. Just for starters, there are people who identify with just the name “Witch” as well as Herb witches, hedge witches, Christian Witches just to name a few.
Adding to the confusion… Wicca is a Neo-pagan faith. SOME Wiccans identify with the “Witch”, others do not.
So not all “Witches” are Wiccan and not all Wiccans are “Witches”.

  6. Wicca is a religion, witchcraft is a practice. Similiar to christianity being a religion and prayer being a practice…
and to the person who said all cults are devil worship, christianity is a cult.
Satan is a myth. People need to stop believing in the boogie man .

  7. Witchcraft is the study of Magick and natural forces used to manifest will. Wicca is a religion, in which spiritual beliefs are more important than magick, although most Wiccans are also Witches.
You can be a Witch without being Wiccan, and you can be a Wiccan without being a Witch.
“Wicca is a corporate marketing scheme to get you to waste your money on their merchandise.” ???? What merchandise? We don’t have collection plates, and we are not a company. The Wiccan way is to spend money on charities, not stuff. Don’t spread lies when you have no idea what you’re talking about.

  8. Wicca is a religion. Witchcraft is a practice that can be found in any religion. Some Wiccans call themselves witches, but some don’t.
If you want to find more information on Wicca I suggest http://www.wicca.timerift.net and anything by Scott Cunningham. You should avoid any books written by Silver Ravenwolf. Her facts are inaccurate and she promots lying to your parents and religious bigotry. Although it’s not completed, I also have a website for newcomers to Wicca and any concerned friends/relatives. The URL is http://sites.google.com/allieswiccapage (if you put a “www.” in there it won’t work).
If you post more questions about Wicca on here you’ll get a lot of good information but you’ll also get a lot of people telling you that Wicca is a cult/Satanism and that you’ll go to hell just for asking about it. Just ignore those people because they don’t know what they’re talking about. And don’t worry, Wicca isn’t bad or anything (in my opinion, no religion is “bad”).
Another thing to keep in mind is that there are a lot of adult Wiccans who are prejudiced against teen Wiccans or anyone new to Wicca. So just ingnore them, too.
One last thing: you will never ever reach a point where you have learned “too much.”
I hope this helps. Good luck!

  9. witchcraft is practiced by Wiccans, but not all people who practice witchcraft are Wiccan.
Basically, witchcraft is a broader term than Wiccan, and encompasses more people.
Witchcraft can be used in positive or negative ways, but Wicca supports only using it in a positive manner.

  10. Wicca is a religion, it believes in the Goddess and the God (male and female aspects of deity), it is Pagan, it celebrates the Esbats (full moons) and Sabbats (solar rituals), and it practices Witchcraft. (folk magic)
Witchcraft is a technique used in many religions, including Wicca.
