What is personality really, in your Spiritual understanding?

We all seem to have different personalities that make us seem unique.
I am curious, where does personality rise from? The Soul? The ego? The conditioning/programming?
How is personality linked to our sense of identity?
What happens to our personality when we pass thru what some call death?
What is someone really saying when they state, “That’s just the way I am”.
Please feel free to add any related comments & explain fully.
Thanks for answering.
Many Blessings!

If you’re still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you’ll know which is right for you.

Shiva says dont go seeking for your own personality but simply to let IT build… Read more »

Experiential truth waters and feeds the immortal soul over many lifetimes and each one reflects through personality the level one has attained. The programming/conditioning are catalysts dual in nature and like a whirling stone on the end of a string the dual force will either drag you away from the center or pull you back toward it. When we die, the images good or bad that we have responded to will determine our forthcoming personality. This to me is the height of fairness. “That’s just the way I am” can be taken as a concession towards the realizing of the… Read more »

Hi ya Just Be! Personality is only ripe when a man has made the truth his own! Every man is born as many men but die as a single one. “We trust we have an honest conscience as we wish to conduct ourselves honestly in all things.”–Hebrews 13:18. Luke 6:43-45 43 “For there is not a fine tree producing rotten fruit; again there is not a rotten tree producing fine fruit. 44 For each tree is known by its own fruit. For example, people do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they cut grapes off a thornbush. 45 A… Read more »

The word personality is derived from the word persona meaning mask or cover. Personality is a cover or mask over the soul and as such it is the stuff created by ‘ego/conditioning/programming’.The identity created by separating from the soul is beset with problems but we think that by casting it off we would be nobody.Actually, by removing the covering soul manifests itself in all its glory and uniqueness with which it always existed/exist.

To put it all in short, one’s personality is actually a balance/ equilibrium between the ‘Id’ and ‘Super-ego’ as created by one’s ‘ego’. * The ‘Id’ is the ‘pleasure principle’ that is concerned with satisfaction of the instinctual needs, without care for the other person’s comforts. It wants instant self gratification. Eg, A child snatches another child’s pencil that appeals to him * The ‘super-ego’ on the other hand acts as our conscience, and works in contradiction to the id. It controls our sense of right and wrong and guilt, and gets us to act in socially acceptable ways. Eg.… Read more »

Personality comes from the spirit, and when the body dies you lose your identity. Maybe it’s some kind of wavelength, different for each spirit, of course!0!

Good luck!

Conditioning/ego (is there really a difference ^_^?). It’s probably slightly genetic, but I tend to think it has more to do with experiences/the way you were brought up, simply because I myself have changed personality so much.

It’s the sum total of one’s genetic predispositons, the effects of raising by parents and the social interaction among peers.
