Does it break down like our body does?
Genesis 2:7 states: “Jehovah God proceeded to form the man out of dust from the ground and to blow into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man came to be a living soul.” Notice that the man himself was the soul; the soul was not immaterial, separate and distinct from the body. “The soul that is sinning–it itself will die.” (Ezek. 18:4, 20) And a deceased person is referred to as a “dead soul.” (Num. 6:6) At death, “his spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground; in that day his thoughts do perish.” (Ps. 146:4) So when someone dies, the complete person is dead; there is nothing that remains alive and that could pass into another body. (For further details, see the main headings “Soul” and “Death.”)
Eccl. 3:19: “There is an eventuality as respects the sons of mankind and an eventuality as respects the beast, and they have the same eventuality. As the one dies, so the other dies.” (As in the case of humans, nothing survives at the death of an animal. There is nothing that can experience rebirth in another body.)
Eccl. 9:10: “All that your hand finds to do, do with your very power, for there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol, the place to which you are going.” (It is not into another body but into Sheol, the common grave of mankind, that the dead go.)
Death is the parting of life from the body permanently. God Almighty tells us-
“Everyone will taste death and then to Me (God) is your return (for judgment).”(Qur’an 29:57)
The Spirit or Soul is the secret of life. Its effects are perceived, but only God knows its nature. He the Almighty says:
“They ask thee concerning the Spirit. Say: The Spirit exists by the command of my Lord: And you (mankind) have only been given little knowledge (about life).” (Qur’an 17:85)
When we compare life and death, the effects of the spirit are not hidden. Immediately after the event of death the body remains the same, but none of its organs function; the tongue is the same before and after death. What has the tongue lost that makes it unable to speak? The eye is the same before and after death. What is it that stopped it from seeing? What about the brain? Why isn’t it active? The whole body has become a motionless corpse. But Why?
An atheist may say because the heart stopped beating or the brain is dead. In that case one should ask himself- What made it alive in the first place? Why did the heart pump and the blood flow? How did the brain know how to move? How did the baby know how to suck milk from its first moments of life? The questions are infinite…..
The answer to this riddle is known through the final revelation- The Qur’an (which science itself testifies to it’s being Divine). It is true that something unseen to the naked eye which bears the secret to life and the body’s ability to move and be alive has left the body. This thing which animates the body is put into the body by the Creator and is then taken out of the body upon death and is returned to its Creator. This amazing mysterious thing which is essential to all living beings is called the Spirit or the Soul.
The reality of death is often remembered in the Holy Qur’an and the Authentic Sunnah of the Prophet (pbuh). Almighty God warns us,
“Be aware! When (the soul) reaches the throat, there will be a cry, “Who will cure me!!!?” And he will conclude that it is the time of parting. And one leg will be joined with another trembling, That Day the Command will be (all) to thy Lord (Qur’an 75: 26-30).
These Holy Verses have shown us that when death comes to a person, his spirit begins to rise from the bottom of his body to its top, until it reaches his collar-bone. Then death is nearer to us than at any other time. At that time, the person wishes to find doctors or any other means to save his/her life, but of course this desire will be in vain.
In the same context, God Almighty says,
Then why don’t you intervene when the soul of the dying man reaches the throat, and while you sit looking on. We are nearer to him than you. Then why do you not see? If you are exempt (not accountable) then return the soul, if you are true (in your claim of power and independence from God)?” (Qur’an 56:83-87).
These holy verses speak about the spirit. When it reaches the throat, then man is near to death. These verses ensure that the spirit is unseen and cannot be seen while parting the body. So why can’t it be seen inside the body of a man who is still alive???
The Sunnah (Authentic narrations of the Prophet) describes the many details regarding the mechanism of death and what happens to the spirit after it has been taken by the angel of death. The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) says,
“When the believing servant of God dies and is waiting for the hereafter, angels descend to him from heaven with white faces shining like the sun. They are carrying heavenly shrouds with the scent of paradise. They will sit in front of him. Then the angel of death comes and sits near his head and says, “Oh thou kind spirit; Come out of your body to the forgiveness of God Almighty and to His satisfaction”. The spirit transcends out of the body like drops of water from the cold glass in a warm climate. Then the angel takes it. As soon as he takes it in his hand, they take it and put it in the scented shroud.
They take it and wrap it in the scented shroud and ascend, whenever they pass a group of angels, they ask “Whose is this good spirit? They say the spirit of so and so the son of so and so. They call him by the best names in existence. When they reach the first heaven, they ask to open the gates for them, the gates are opened. In each heaven, a great number of angels escort him. This lasts till he reaches the seventh heaven. At this point, The Almighty says, “Write the record of my servant among the heavens and return him back to the earth. I created them (mankind) from earth. I will return them back to it and once more I will bring them out of it (resurrect them)”.
The Bible has the final say. When you die you go to rest as if in a dreamless sleep. Your breath(life force or whatever you wish to call your breath) goes back to God, who gave it to you in the first place. You will remain in this state until the resurrection. You will be unconscious until then. No heat, cold, sadness, happiness or any awareness at all until God tells you to stand before Him for judgment to the final death or everlasting life. It is always about choice, isn’t it?
well it goes to heaven, or hell, until the final judgement
Seriously? Have you even read the Holy Bible?
Just because people claim to be a certain religion doesnt mean anything.
You become unconcious..That’s it. Death is called death for a reason..its the end. Enjoy life while you have it.
It ends forever.
it enters heaven or hell until the resurrection
