what does "satori" mean in zen buddhism?

  1. Enlightenment, the cesation of our desires…
Literally “to understand”, it is more transitory than Nirvana. It is a recognition of epiphany-like moments…

  2. Loosely, it means “understanding”.
Of course, in zen we can see that “understanding” is, in itself, an illusion. Things are always as they are, but not always as they seem.
Sit zazen often, and you will soon understand that it is of no importance to understand.
