What do you Brits think of American music?

I’ve seen a lot posts bashing most American music. When we’ve recent bands like…Red Hot Chili Peppers, Incubus, Rage Against the Machine…the MGMT.. I understand that most American music nowadays is mainstream shit, but we got some good music out there as well, I think.
Notice the part in the question that says “Brits” not what americans think of our music.

Luv it mate!!

I’m not British but if your not American its harder to find the better bands here. All they see is the big bands who really aren’t good at all.

I am an American and I hate every group you listed and most of todays top 40. Music is so international no one ever thinks of a performer as being of a particular nationality.

It is disappointing that pop groups fail to exploit the wonderful opportunities afforded in music. Why don’t they use the whole range? Loud, soft, fast ,slow, change of key, minor chords, contrapuntal, harmonic oh forget it.

sir Borzakovsky

I like some of it mate, but i honestly prefer british stuff, i think it is more gritty and real where as i find a lot of American music a bit too glossy and sugar coated, and the things addressed in the songs are some what unrealistic and un-attainable.

prefer British bands over American any day

Roots, blues, rock ‘n’ roll, country, pop, jazz, swing, jive, you name it-it started in the USA. It is truly the birthplace of modern music as we know it, and all the superstars who have been so influential (Beatles, Stones, Led Zep, U2, Clapton, Dylan, Eagles, etc ) would be nowhere without their jazz and blues & rock ‘n’ roll forebears.
You’re not getting off without a mention of Britney Spears though.
