What happens when a wiccan gets married? What do they do?

Merry Meet paranormal state fan, Most Weddings in the Pagan community is called a Handfasting, even though originally in olden times it was considered an engagement. Today many Wiccans incorporate a Handfasting, creating sacred space as well as calling the quarters and inviting the Gods for the Wedding ceremony. Traditionally misc vows of commitment are stated during different aspects of the ceremony and the exchanging of gifts are customary (rings or bracers). It’s called a Handfasting. Basically, you are ‘joined’ with your prospective spouse for a year and a day, and after wards if you decide it’s not a good idea then you go your separate ways and find other people. If you do think it’s still a good idea, however, then you are ‘joined’ permanently.

Pretty smart, huh?

Other than that, there isn’t much else different from a normal wedding. Maybe a special ritual or weird dance-thing, and almost all Handfasting take place outside.

Handfastings can be very individual and eclectic, depending on the couple. Its not like a traditional wedding where its one idea.

Most of it is the same as any other religious marriage – the couple takes vows before their Gods. One difference is that the couple’s hands are tied together as a symbol of their union.
