What do people think about this Buddha quote?

Buddha — “Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.”
This seems very reasonable to me… anyone else?

Not entirely because there are credible sources such as universities, books, some magazines, journals, etc.

Agreed, this quote includes his own teachings as well, which in my opinion is very wise.

my friend

One must live one’s own experience of being and can not live that of another.
One is, then, one’s own prophet with the lived experience of being as one’s scripture so that the world becomes as one creates the same, as one understands the same and as one lives the same.
The truth then is within one.
All are one and the truth is one with many paths that lead to the same.

I shorten that to “question everything.”

I agree with it. It seems like he is saying don’t go around believing things that don’t fit into who you are and what feels right to you. A lot of the confused people who ask questions of what they should believe should consider that.

Which is why I don’t fall for evolution.

my mom used to have that on a magnet on the fridge, pretty much stuck with me all my life

That is the misinterpretation of the Discourse of Free Enquire. (Kalama Sutta)
“Of course you are uncertain, Kalamas. Of course you are in doubt. When there are reasons for doubt, uncertainty is born. So in this case, Kalamas, don’t go by reports, by legends, by traditions, by scripture, by logical conjecture, by inference, by analogies, by agreement through pondering views, by probability, or by the thought, ‘This contemplative is our teacher.’ When you know for yourselves that, ‘These qualities are unskillful; these qualities are blameworthy; these qualities are criticized by the wise; these qualities, when adopted & carried out, lead to harm & to suffering’ – then you should abandon them.”
1. It did not says believe nothing.
2. “by logical conjecture” refers to your own reason and common sense.
for example, long time ago, people believe the world is flat. That is logical. How can you stand on a round earth. That is the flaw of logical thinking.
