There are thousands of meditation styles you can choose from. Most consist of either focusing on something outside your body (mandala), something inside your body (breath), chanting, watching your own mind, or seeking to disperse into emptiness.

It all depends what one wants to do with meditation. Meditation originates from religious practice, rooted from the Buddhist and Taoist teaching. Secular yoga meditation provides a vehicle to calm down and letting go of some stress, slight increase of body immunity, and some benefit in treating some illness. I use guided meditations. You can find free ones, and they help me relax. When I’m trying to meditate without a voice telling me where to go in my mind, I just sit there not really knowing what to do. Having a voice speaking soothes me, especially if it’s a female voice. But, there are a lot of different kinds of meditations. You should at least try a few different kinds, even if they sounds weird. I tried the Chakra Meditation, thinking it sounded stupid. You can try tai-chi where you meditate while in motion and also improve your health.

There are many tapes you can listen to. The most important thing to remember is to practice. It took me almost a year to properly meditate.
