what are some good islamic books?

after the Quran, what are some good islamic books? i want something that is sort of like a spiritual awakening type of thing. something that will change me for the better. know what i mean?
please no rude comments. i respect everyones religions so please respect mine.

  1. read anything by Rumi.
Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi is one of the best poets to ever live. there are tons of books with his works, even those little pocket sized ones.
“This is love: to fly toward a secret sky, to cause a hundred veils to fall each moment. First to let go of life. Finally, to take a step without feet.”

  2. A few good books:
Don’t Be Sad by Aaidh ibn Abdullah al-Qarni
The Pillars of Islam & Iman & what every Muslim must know about his Religion by Shaikh Muhammad bin Jamil Zeno
The Fundamentals of Tawheed (I love this one) by Abu Ameenah Bilal Philips

  3. I would say read an explanation of the Quran. Not simply a translation. Proper explanations actually have almost a paragraph written about every Ayat. Read that first and then maybe you can pursue other books. There are hundreds of great books out there though, and I have many at home but unfortunately I have not read them fully yet.
One Author of such an explanation of the Quran is Syed Modudi (not sure how to spell his name in english)
Also you can listen to lectures. Anwar Awlaki has many lectures for which he has done research from early Islamic scholars so his lectures are beautiful. You can find many of them on youtube. He has done a 15 hour lecture on the life of Abu Bakr and a similar 15 hour lecture on the life of Umar and many other lectures!
