Phoenix

The Tao of Pooh.
A really excellent introduction written in a light hearted manner, but most helpful.
The Tao Te Ching.
A great Taoist classic. (I particularly like the translation by Gia Fu Feng and Jane English.) Not easy to understand, but holds the greatness of Taoism in its pages.
The Essential Tao by Thomas Cleary.
A useful book explaining the classic books of Lao Tse and Chuang Tzu.

Phoenix made some great suggestions, I will add Alan Watts to the list.

Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life : Living the Wisdom of The Tao
By Wayne Dyer. It has the Tao te Ching, and his translation and suggestions on how to bring that verse into your life. I love it.

Orpheus Rising

Besides the ones given already, I would add this:

It’s a good translation of the TaoTeChing (with the chinese text too), but the great thing about it is that each chapter comes with 2 pages of commentaries from sages of the last 2000+ years. It really helps untangle and ‘pull out’ some of the thoughts in the poetry.
Peace to you.
