I meditate quite often, with a headset playing sounds of nature and envision a beautiful waterfall scenery with intense focus. This helps me remain free and refreshed, and it is scientifically proven.
My brother is really into prayer and it makes him really happy. I asked him why and his answer lacks. In a sense, I would like to be more successful and meditation can only do so much. What does prayer do, what are its benefits, and is any of it scientifically backed (not asking for hard proof, just personal proof or even somewhat scientific proof)?
Talking to God…..better than any IMAGINARY meadow baby
As far as I understand, prayer isn’t that much different from meditation. I think meditation might be a bit better in that you’re not uttering requests to deity though, but only as long as you’re meditating on a specific thing or idea.
There has been extensive scientific research into meditation, as we do have the technology to monitor physiology while it’s being practiced. It definitely does have an effect on physiology, especially in the brain. It wouldn’t take too much Google searching to pull up some decent findings on the subject. For example, hypnosis is a form of meditation, which we all know is used for a variety of purposes in the psychological and medical fields. The only difference being in the overall goals of the two things. I’m mainly a responding to omoikane, who obviously has no idea what he’s talking about. I mean come on. Illusion of the mind? Illusions of the mind are things that you hear or see that aren’t there. We’re talking about STATES of mind. The argument does not match the subject matter.
God always answers my prayers in one way or another. Sometimes it seems to take Him forever to answer, but I have faith that eventually He will send an answer of some sort. Talking to God is like talking to a best friend. If you love someone, you’re going to communicate with them. Since I love God, I love to pray to Him because it’s how I talk to Him.
I spoke to G-d for my critically ill boyfriend to be saved.. and he was saved.. 🙂
You can only ‘know’ what are the benefits, FOR YOU, NOW.
And even that may be an illusion of the mind.
you mean STATISTICALLY proven.
Let’s keep the word science for math and physics, not for complex dynamics.
