People seem to recall past lives on occasion as young children, but I have never heard of someone chatting about a trip to hell.
Many people have remembered “past lives” while under hypnosis. However, many things have been remembered falsely under hypnosis, so this doesn’t constitute proof of any sort.
there is no evidence of reincarnation-but we have written accounts of god and his miracles
There have been accounts, documented by psychologists, of children who can recount names, cities and recollect descriptions of history and their homes from a past life. By all means, reincarnation is more fully evidenced.
It’s also my personal belief that babies and children can remember their time across the veil — after all, they just reincarnated. Babies often smile in their sleep because they are speaking with a guardian angel or playmate from across the veil.
All morons gimme a thumbs down, please. (heh heh)
On Oprah there was an American woman who was hypnotised and remembered a past life and began speaking another language she had never heard and it was only a very restricted dialect in Africa.
The way I look at it, none of us REALLY knows what happens after we die. Once we die, we’ll know who’s ‘right’. Having said that, I believe in reincarnation because everything on the planet is recycled, so why not souls? And too many people have too many attractions to certain countries or cultures or places that they feel connected to in their hearts, but can’t explain rationally. Sometimes we have ‘memories’ of places we’ve never been, or things we’ve never seen. Personally, I’ve noticed that more people seem to be ‘on the fence’ with religion, or do believe in reincarnation.
About 20 years ago, I had a past life regression hypnosis done to try to figure out why I was afraid of water. Turned out (long before the movie ever came out), I was (in theory) on the Titanic. Things I remember about the hypnosis was the chaos on deck as the boats were being loaded, how dark the water looked, the stars, and how everything was slanted towards the bow. The one thing that stood out was a noise in the background. A deafening sound like the ships horn, but not quite. Up until that point, I had never read or seen anything on TV about Titanic. I researched it after that, and deep inside one book, found that the boilers had ruptured while it was sinking, setting off a deafening whistling noise as the boats were being loaded. How would I have known such a thing?
The unexplained is a wonderful, mysterious thing.
None for either. However there have been some mysteriously scary accurate remembering of past lives, they are probably not real but some are quite eerie in The details the person has remembered.
The evidence is that you once had a baby body, then you had a child body and later an adult body, but you are the same conscious individual. Therefore, just as you change bodies within one lifetime, death simply means another change. It is the status quo. A change to the status quo requires evidence. Unfortunately, our imperfect senses are incapable of perceiving the conscious individual. Instead, we only perceive the symptoms of consciousness in a material body.
Also, reincarnation and heaven/hell are not mutually exclusive even though the evidence favors reincarnation, as explained above. That is, unless by “hell” you just mean any place where suffering occurs. Then, in that case, hell exists and we have evidence. Heaven, on the other hand, is the idea that there is an absolute abode of God wherein there is nothing but incessant and exponentially increasing bliss. The evidence for this follows on the premise of the existence of such a God. Therefore, for atheists, this is no evidence at all.
*Edit: An increase in human population =/= proof or even evidence against reincarnation. One mistaken assumption for those who think it does is that only human bodies house souls. Another mistake is in thinking that earth is necessarily the only place where souls incarnate.
“Souls descend to the physical bodies according to a fixed and predetermined order. They return to this world each time in a new body. The physical characteristics of each generation are similar to the one that precedes it, but the souls of each generation come to the world with an accumulated experience of all the previous generations. They have new powers that they acquired during their stay ‘up there’.
That is why in each generation there is a series of desires, goals in life, that characterize a generation. In each generation souls with new potential desires descend. The desires determine how the science, culture, art and social relationships of that generation will evolve.”
