You need to clarify what you mean by witch. If you mean someone who gets magical powers from evil sources, it’s very hard to imagine that person being good, although they might be “nice” on a personal level. Or do you mean a person who follows the religion of Wicca? They claim to be witches, but I would have to study their belief system a lot more than I have in order to answer your question. As with all religions, there are likely to be nominal followers who practice it to a greater or lesser extent, and to be all shades of good, bad and indifferent persons among the followers.
Witchcraft is not, and has never been, inherently evil. It reflects the intentions of the person practicing it. If your friend is a good person, and practices good magick, then there is nothing to worry about.
No, not at all. In fact if I HAD to chose a religion, wicca would be it. Its not bad or evil like the christians have trumped it up to be, like a bully on the playground trying to make himself look better.
I know a Satanist who is a very good person, a wonderful wife, mother and friend, one of the best ones I have. And I know several terrible people who claim to be christians. If you ask me, wether a person is “good” or “bad” is only relative to the situation and the view point of the person at hand. A christian person would more than likley see me and my satanist friend as terrible people who must do evil things like kill babies and sacrifice animals in the cemetary at night. The truth is neither of us would do anything to harm another person and even in the satanic church, animal sacrifice is a big no no. I try to be the most understanding and caring person that I can be, regarless of the persons religion, nationality, sexual orientation, race, or otherwise. We shouldnt behave like we belong to some snooty club because of where we live or what our personal beliefs might be… all people are people diserving of a basic level of human caring and understanding.
A person who does bad things (seeing them apart from whatever religion they may or may not subscribe themselves to, only the person) does them because they lack respect not only for others, but for themselves as well. Actually, in wicca, or witchcraft, the main law to be followed goes as such: if it harm none, do what thou wilst. In other words, you are free to do what you want with your life, as long as it does not harm any other person. Doesnt sound so bad now does it?
No one is going to hell when they die, we as people create hell here on earth when we act on feelings of selfishness, greed, coruption, hate, self loathing, low self esteem and bigortry. All people should love each other and strive to better themselves by helping the less fortunate, lending a hand when in need, being a friend and dong whats right for all people, not just for ones own desires.
Just as a side note: witches, true witches, do not obtain supernatural power from demons or anything evil at all. Those of you who know nothing about this topic other than what your mommy told you or what you heard in church need not spread more lies than there already have been. There is nothing evil about the religion, its only a different way of seeing things, a different type of spirtuality that most christians would never understand. Its about having love, adoration and respect for nature and finding the answers in you life in the world around you. Lighting a candle or chanting a spell is only a symbolic prerequisite to what the person tends to make happen for his or her self. Nothing more. Let go of the wrong you have been told. It was a lie.
Of course not they are followers of a pagan religious group called wicca. They study and respect nature and the good things it can produce like natural cures for illnesses. The idea that they were evil was put about by early christians to try can get people to come to church and put money in the collection plate
There is nothing bad about witchcraft unless one wants to use it to be bad. The same can be said of anything: Your hand isn’t bad, but you can use it to hurt someone. The same thing applies.
First of all, you need to realize that there are no spontaneous thunder storms, no gusts of wind blowing in your face from out of ancient tomes, no waving your wand and making stuff happen.
It takes hard work, time, and a lot of energy to become a witch in more than name.
Unless you do harmful stuff with magick, it’s not at all dangerous. If you start cursing people, it is. The energy you send out into the universe comes back to you. Some say it comes back in equal measure, most say three times. If you curse someone, something three times as bad will happen to you. That’s really no different than the mundane world. Live by the sword, die by the sword kind of thing. Magick isn’t supernatural. It’s working within the laws of nature to manifest one’s will. You can’t break the natural laws, you can only learn ways to use them to help you that science has not yet discovered, but witches have through intuition and years of experimentation. I think of it as similar to ancient humans using the power of fire for their benefit without having any idea where the fire really came from or why it exists. They experimented with it until they could figure out just enough to use it to help their lives.
Wiccans do not believe in hell or in an all evil deity like Satan. We believe Satan is something humans invented so they had someone to blame when they did bad things.
The only rule of Wicca is “Do what you want as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone.” Wicca is about taking care of the earth and the people and animals in it, equality of the sexes, respecting that differences aren’t bad (you will never meet a Wiccan homophobe), and that all paths to divinity (or none at all) are equally valid if they harm none. We don’t proselytize, only educate people when they ask.
While there are classes for Wicca, they aren’t necessary. Everyone ultimately has to find the goddess and god within themselves. Those classes charge money (just like yoga and exercise teachers) because they have to make a living. But NEVER pay someone for online lessons. Don’t pay someone to do spells for you either. Unless they only ask compensation for the supplies needed, they are a con-artist.
For everyone comparing Witches to murderers and Nazis, you are seriously nasty and judgmental people.
For everyone saying Witchcraft isn’t real: Unless you have a degree in quantum physics, shut the hell up.
No witchcraft isn’t a bad thing. It’s no more evil or anything like that than any other religion. It’s just a different view point from the mainstream religions.
Just remember that christians are responsible for the “holy” crusades, Spanish inquisition, the witch trials and Hitler.
You have nothing to worry about about.
It’s not about personality. It’s the spirit behind the mask.
You have good and bad people in all religions. That’s not the point of why it’s evil. It’s the spirit behind it, not the person them selves.
Anything in this life on Earth that does not include Jesus Christ is potentially a bad thing.
People tend to associate witchcraft with the stereotypical wicked-witch-of-the-west image and this is why people feel it is bad. True witchcraft is a spiritual system based on nature and kindness which can only be good – after all it cannot be any worse than those who kill in the name of other religions.
And I know christians who are bad people. Heck I remember seeing a movie once. I the movie you see the old guy playing with his grand daughter (it was very sweet). Then the old guy gets up and leaves for work. His job? He was a Nazi soldier. The movie ends with him helping a little girl no bigger then his granddaughter into a gas chamber because she was too small to make the steps.
I am not saying witches are nazi’s I am saying everyone is nice to friends and family.
Good according to who’s standard? I’m sure a psychotic axe murderer who only killed three people would seem “good” in comparison to, say, Hitler.
Is it bad to let little kids play with matches? I know a little kid who likes to play with matches who is a very nice kid.
When you experiment with the supernatural you are wading in over your head.
Witches have a good history. They were probably the herbalists of their day… and they were hunted down by religious fanatics. I see them in a better light than the “crusaders” who went after them.
Yes of course. They turn people into frogs and put bad spells on you and make your teeth fall out. Who needs it?
