Religion is important in my life, yet I don’t see the value of religion as depending upon the existence of supernatural realms or gods. The value of religion is in the edifying; the opportunity to transcend ego and shape behaviour to a higher standard (the example of Christ). Its the spiritual importance which is linked to the aesthetic dimension; the myths, rituals, architecture, paintings, music, incense. Similarly the Bible’s value is related to its aesthetics; its rich poetic form. I don’t believe in spirits, the afterlife, gods or anything supernatural, but can’t religion still have value independent of these things?
