Religion defends it’s cause by associating everything “wrong” in it’s perspective with things that really do have just cause to be wrong, painful or hurtful to people. Through parables and metaphors religion builds a false logic within the mind, influencing that reality is maintaining notions based on similarities, rather than facts. To maintain it’s cause, it encourages it’s members to shun those who distract from the pure faith. Then by not feeling welcome anymore by family and friends he must make a choice. Either accept reality as those around him dictate, or believe and study further his own notions with an open mind so he can verify one way or another, even at the risk of losing his family and friends’ respect.
What I managed to do was come out myself, and at the same time convince my family to do the same. I simply made them see the error and flaw of religion’s logic, which even though they are too influenced to conceptualize a reality without a god, they can admit now that one cannot rely on a path of logic that runs around in circles. So they no longer support the concept of church, even though they still believe in God. Satisfactory result I would say.
