Things that travel faster than the speed of light are called…?

There’s a name used for molecules that travel faster than the speed of light. It’s used a lot in quantum mechanics and theoretical physics.. what is it?

  1. the only thing i can think of are photons however they are the smallest particals of light they travel at the same speed but i dont think there is anything faster than the speed of light

  2. It’s the hypothetical particle the tachyon but they’re not molecules, as you state they are sub-atomic particles. It’s theorized that they can also travel backwards in time. Superluminal is also the term for something traveling faster than the speed of light and another hypothetical particle they think may be superluminal is the superbradyon.

  3. tachyons. they arent molecules. molecules are atoms bonded together. tachyons are completely different particles.
they are highly theoretical, have never been seen, and most likely dont exist.
