Doing Time, Doing Vipassana : Vipassana Meditation in Prison

During the following winter of 1994-95, the Israeli filmmakers traveled to both Tihar and to the Baroda Jail in the India state of Gujarat, at which Vipassana courses had also been conducted. There they conducted and filmed extensive interviews with jail officials, including Kiren Bedi, and inmates from many different countries who participated in the courses. The result of these efforts was an extremely powerful 52-minute documentary film entitled Doing Time, Doing Vipassana. The film describes the way in which Vipassana has been sucessfully used within the Indian prison system to dramatically change the behaviour and attitude of the inmates and jailers who participated in the courses and, thereby, improve the entire atmosphere of the prisons.

Detect negative energy patterns in your home

Having negative energy in our homes can have an effect in our family life. The negativity flows from our surroundings into our systems causing us to act negatively too. We do not want discord in our homes so it is best to assess if there are negative energy patterns in our home so we can immediately address to it and enjoy a happier, healthier family life.

Miracles of self-respect: Meditation

When someone lacks self-respect, they live their life miserably. They shoulder the burdens of regret, shame, loathing and blame. They are prone to engaging themselves to self-destructive behavior because they have little value for themselves.

We exist in a universe where everything is connected. The nature that surrounds us, for example, has a powerful connection to human beings. Aside from the fact that it is our main source of food, the way nature behaves creates an impact to our bodily functions.

A simple example can be experienced when you are taking an early morning stroll out in the open. It puts you in a better mood, doesn’t it?

That’s because the sun’s ultraviolet rays stimulate the flow of hormones in our bodies. However, not all effects caused by nature’s behavior are positive. Some of them can take a negative toll on us.

Numerous studies have been conducted on the effects of the moon to human beings. In each, they were able to discover that the moon has various effects to the human mind, both scientifically and spiritually.

The moon and our subconscious

Our subconscious is a doorway to multitudes of memories, insights, images, and other forms of impressions that we have accumulated over the years. Moreover, it generates a high frequency which is relatively higher than that produced by the moon.

Meditating on a full moon night can help us in several ways, Ancient yogi’s and Tibetan monks have been known to meditate on full moon night and able to explore the powers of subconscious mind.

Ordinarily, it takes a lot of energy and meditation, and concentration in order to explore and heal our subconscious, but the Full moon has powerful energies and spiritual practitioners including Wicca and Pagans have been known for using this energy.

It is believed that Buddha attained enlightenment by meditating Vipassana Meditation on full moon night.

In several studies, the frequencies emanated by the moon are discovered to have an effect on the thought frequencies in our subconscious mind. They make our subconscious surface to the conscious mind, bringing along with it all the imprints that we have stored in it — unnecessary and necessary; positive and negative.

Their combined surge to the conscious mind can be overwhelming and can cause a person to act crazy and mindless or feel energetic and powerful.

The moon and our physical bodies

Some studies have found strong evidence that the moon affects our sleeping patterns. The evidence was based on a study that involved 33 adult volunteers of different age groups who were put under observation as they slept for several nights in a sleep lab.

The researchers studied and observed the brain activity, eye movements, and hormone levels of the volunteers. They discovered that on nights closer to moon days, volunteers take an average of five minutes longer to ease into sleep, and their sleeping hours are cut short by 20 minutes.

Additionally, their melatonin (sleep-regulating hormones) levels dropped compared to other nights. This information uncovers the fact that on full moon nights, people are prone to experiencing insomnia because of extra energy.

Knowing the effects of the moon, we can use it to our own advantage instead of letting it have a negative effect on our vibrations.

In nights where a new moon graces the night sky, our unconscious surface through and we can use this time to cleanse our overactive mind. We should not use natural phenomena as an excuse to give in to our body’s natural response. Instead, we should always work towards the improvement of our self.

Third Eye Meditation

Often lots of people's third eye are not open because they are blocked. The third eye is a sixth chakra but connected to the first, second and third chakra's and blockages in this lower chakra's will also cause a blockage in the sixth. Oftentimes, the cause of blockages are fear and disbelief, though Tibetans and Indian yogis believe third eye is blocked for past life karma . Some people refuse to believe that they are blessed with a sixth sense while others are anxious of the images they might see once they have opened theirs.

Why the Need to Fear?

Fear has existed in the world for the beginning of time and still humans cannot eliminate its existence. Certainly fear can be a positive force in certain situations, but generally it can be a very detrimental energy force. It can steer someone in the opposite direction of opportunity or safety. When viewed in a positive light, it can stop a person from doing something that can harm them emotionally, mentally, spiritually or physically. With unhealthy fear comes anxiety, hesitation, resistance to change and progression. So why is it tolerated?

Words and Their Effect on our DNA

Group of Russian scientists came to the conclusion that our DNA can be modified without cutting out or replacing any gene. We can modify it through radio waves in the form of our words. Such form of energy might not produce results as strong and immediate as produced by a modulated laser ray but with constant application, it will create a change in our DNA.

Meditation and Labyrinths

Some people confuse labyrinths with mazes, but it's not a maze. It is more of a meditation that is in walking form. Let me explain. The labyrinth has a pathway that you walk in order to reach the center but it goes round and round, back and forth, until you reach the center. The key is to take slow steps and just walk towards the center; taking your time and following your breath.
