Talismans and Amulets: Can they even be the American coinage that say In God we Trust?

I was skimming through a book with a chapter on Talismans and Amulets. it states that Coins were traditionally believed to be lucky because they were originally engraved with the image of a god. Does the Phrase In God we Trust engraved on American coinage make them a lucky Talisman?

  1. If you need a talisman or amulet I wouldn’t suggest a coin, at least a recent one. A talisman or amulet tend to be something with much importance attached to it by the owner. Coins have been through too many hands for my liking. Each of us generally has a talisman, even the bowler who wears his ‘lucky shirt.’ Hope that helps you find your answer.

  2. I wouldn’t consider an ordinary coin to be lucky. Perhaps something that is a collector’s item type coin. I have a small coin shaped piece of metal with an angel engraved on it that I keep in my wallet. That, to me, is more lucky than any other coin I have.

  3. No, I don’t think the inscription on American coins matters for that; but how about our old superstition, still in circulation today, that finding a penny brings good luck? I imagine it stems from the same idea you mention.
