Regression? If so, why?

Lately since my life has been in turmoil, I find myself regressing back to when I was very young. I previously lived in another area that was much more pleasant and then moved to a rich neighborhood where ppl where obnoxious. I believe this may have trauamatized me. I have since continued to go back to my old neighborhood and trying 2 remember all the happy times. It’s like I’m afraid to 4get since my life is moving on even more. One things that doesnt help much is I visited my old house/ neighbors and the woman who lives in my house was cruel. She was out watering her garden and I said hello. She didnt smile or anything, I explained 2 her I once lived in her house, nothing else, and she had no expression and went back inside after I said it. It’s not like I asked 2 go inside! I’ve also been watching home movies a lot, and digging out old toys. Why am I feeling this way and what is a possible cause? I enjoy looking back on fond memories but don’t want 2 live in the past either.

Freeing yourself from your mind. What exactly do you mean by watching the thinker? “When someone goes to the doctor and says “I hear a voice in my head” she or he will most likely be sent to a psychiatrist. The fact is that, in a very similar way, virtually everyone hears a voice, or several voices, in their head all the time: the involuntary thought processes that you don’t realize you have the power to stop. Continuous monologues or dialogues. You probably have come across ‘mad’ people in the street incessantly talking or muttering to themselves. Well, that’s not… Read more »

I think you said it all in the first line of your detail; “Lately since my life has been in turmoil”. Things are apparently going on that you want to escape. That escape is taking the form of regression. May I suggest that you make a change in your routine. Not necessarily a permanent change, just for a few hours. Escape to the theatre and watch a movie. Lock yourself in a room with the computer and PLAY. I think you need a relief period from the stress you are feeling about the turmoil. If I were a betting man… Read more »

I think we have all struggled at times and look back on our past. It is nice that you have the good memories to look back on. Some people’s past is something they want to forget. It is ok to do what you are doing as long as it is not interfering with your life now. I think the issue you need to deal with is not that you feel you are regressing but that you need to deal with the issues at hand.

I dont want to sound mean, but get over it. You have to realize that we all go through these times, yahoo answers is not going to help you. Get on with yourself, life is hard as hell, we all have our tribulations, and they test us, but going back to your old house isnt going to help you. We all like to watch home movies and look back on fond memories, your no different than the rest of us. Aside from our childhood, life is hard, and it challenges us in all ways, thus we all look back on… Read more »

I used to be able to do the same thing. Go back to where I once lived growing up and visiting the homes I once lived in. but it all changes with the times. the homes may look similar and the places make have some of the old bldgs and such, but the faces have changed and so have the times. People are not as nice as they once were and things are not always as they seem. The best thing you can do, is be grateful for the happiness you once had in those places and keep the memories… Read more »
