Question about Buddhism and reincarnation?

Ok, I’m sure this might come off as a dumb question, but I am a sophomore in high school and we are learning about religions right now- and I have a question about Buddha…
My teacher said that Buddhists believe that you are reincarnated until you reach nirvana, then you have ended the reincarnation cycle, but didn’t Buddhe reach nirvana? Why, then, is the Dali Lama said to be the reincarnation of Buddha?

There’s a theme in religion. Not facts of past.

what kind of a school would ask this question without first allowing you to understand the fundamental principals of Buddhism . . .it sounds like they are planting the image in your mind of what reincarnation, and Buddhism is without first allowing you to find understand . . .. .
oh. . . I get it. Christian brain washing at it’s finest!
IF you are really a highschool sophomore ask yourself why this question really came up . . . . .
Just for the record, though all things have a cycle. Nirvana is not the end of one. As to reincarnation that has more to do with bhodicitta and karma, than pop (lazy) culture’s views of “former lives”.
You are being misled, go figger.

use your brain

be a muslim, the clearest religion.Allah provides for you eternal joy in paradise, otherwise hell.reflect it. dont be arrogant.

You are close but not quite. As I understand it the Dali Lama is the reincarnation of one of Buddha’s students. Though the Buddha himself was reincarnated many times. It does get a little confusing and it’s been a few months since I read Robert Thurman’s book. I do remember reading that he came back even after being perfected because he was sad that so many were struggling to find the way and he wanted to help them. Hope that helps clear things up a bit.

First of all, not all Buddhists believe in reincarnation.
Second, the Dalai Lama is part of a sect of Mahayana Buddhism (the Gelug sect of Tibetan Buddhism, if you were wondering) which believes that you can choose to reincarnate to help all other sentient beings reach Nirvana before you. People in the Mahayana tradition sometimes take vows to do this (reincarnate so as to help other beings become enlightened) and they are called Bodhisattvas.
Third, the Dalai Lama is NOT said to be the reincarnation of the Buddha, he’s said to be the reincarnation of the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara.

if it is so all his action does not even come close to being an Enlightened Being, so it’s rather wrong
even to claim to be one. refer to the Vinaya Rules of Buddhism, which clearly define false claims by anyone who “claim even to be a Sotapan-Stream enterer”
So, I guess it will be far shot to be Enlightened, unless someone who has gone into Homelessness
giving up mere human belonging for fame and fortune.
Buddhism strictly forbid involvement in Politics against any sort of government, because Kamma is the basic fundamental of Buddhism. As such any actions against any ruling government trangress
the basic rules of Vinaya SUTTA(discpline of the monk)
Buddhism : Dukkha, Anicca, Anatta (cause of sufferings, impenancecy, and non-self), that clearly define non-soul except round of existence in the various plane of existence until nibbana is achieved.
i.e if a flame is lighted from one candle to another and another, Is it the same or a different entity from the kamma since the lighting of the first candle? a form consist of Mentality and materiality, composed of conciousness derived from countless kamma from many different existence. How reincarnation is not possible? Because it’s the accumulation of Kamma, that will only function at the precise moment based on causation and conditions that arises with the linking conciousness alowing each moment to exist due to kammic formation, each sequence is new in existence, except beings are UNABLE to realise due to its continuance seemlessly and the recolection of past mental phenomena thus creating entity
