Pantheists/Animists/Shamanic Pagans; Do you consider yourself a Shaman, ordo you only consider a "few" Shamen?

ie. in Tribal societies, each tribe would have one or even fewer Shaman… (in the case of travelling Medicine men, who were only brought in in special cases)

  1. I’m no Shaman. I know a few general health patchy things, a couple small rituals, and I talk to every 1 in 4 spirits, but I’m still no shaman.
I do feel the universe follows a shamanistic organization though, and Animism just seems the logical extension (or vice versa). But I don’t offer my services as a Shaman.

  2. answer: I consider few to be true shamans and I’m not one. I have some talents that come close but I don’t have the patience to develop the skills.
    I’m more of a werserker.

  3. I consider the vast majority of self-identified “shamans” to be participating in cultural imperialism.
A shaman is someone who has been trained by another shaman in the entire belief system of their people.
I have seen too many whites go to a sweat or two and declare themselves a shaman without understanding the first thing about First People’s cultures.

  4. There are not nearly as many as they might think. Shaman’s did not exist in every culture as people like to think they did. It takes a lifetime of work to achieve it under the guidance of another. So there are lot of people claiming the title that have no right.
