Old hag? Sleep paralysis?

I’m 14 now but when i was about 7 i had my first “old hag” experience
except instead of an old hag it was my grandpa who had just died a few months before that happened & he used to live in that house.
I was only 7 and I had no idea what was going on why that happened & now I looked it up & for some reason it seems like it’s going to happen again i wake up in the middle of the night sometimes feeling almost the same thing… I don’t know if i’m just paranoid but even though it’s been 7 years i still grieve for my grandpa…
Is that why I feel like it’s going to happen again?
Should i see some sort of psychologist or therapist?!
Have you ever experienced that?

No. Sleep paralysis is the doorway to lucid dreaming, which people pay a lot of money to learn. Go to Saltcube.com for more info. Your are, believe it or not, very lucky. Also it is the way to induce OBEs.

Unexplained

im 20, i get sleeping paralysis alot, its most common between late teens and mid 20’s but people can get it at any age. i get it wen im over tired and just about to fall asleep then i cant move my body, its creepy and sometimes it makes me hear and see people. this is because wen we go 2 bed ready to sleep our mind might think we are sleeping before we actually are and it shuts down body movement, for example, incase we dream we are running, it stops us from making the actual movement of running while we are sleeping. it also makes out mind start dreaming while we are awake so, yes, to the answer above it can bring on lucid dreaming. perfectly natural occurrences, but scary ( sleeping paralysis )

I’ve been ‘suffering’ with sleep paralysis for about 30 years now.
I’ve never had anyone that I’ve known sitting on my chest, but I’ve ‘seen’ many demons there.
No matter how many times I’ve experienced it, I still find it terrifying.
Initially, when I first ‘wake up’, I get a sensation that makes me believe that the house has been broken into. (I don’t know how that works, but I’ve also experienced it when I’ve been a hospital in-patient, so I’m not sure why I have the same feeling there.) It’s then that I realise [realize, if you’re one of my American cousins] I can’t move … not even my head. I then see ‘demons’ racing around my bed. They then seem to be jumping onto my chest and punching, kicking, and biting me, but I can’t move to fight them off.
I’ve heard of people that are able to KNOW that what they are seeing and feeling is bogus, so they drift off back to sleep but, no matter how hard I try, I seem incapable of doing that.
Eventually, I do become able to let out a grunt or a shout, but that tends to be immediately after the demons have disappeared. (A bit embarrassing when it happens in hospital and the nurses on duty come to see what all the fuss is about.)
Just because you’ve experienced it once does NOT necessarily mean that you’re going to experience it again, my friend.
I saw a psychiatrist whilst I was in hospital, and he sent various people to ‘interview’ me … asking me questions such as whether or not I believe in a ‘higher power’/God, etc. I’m sure you’ll appreciate the sorts of things that might have been running through my mind. I was reluctant to let on many things about my belief system apart from me saying that I do believe in a ‘higher power’, and that I speak with Her … and get replies. I was worried that they were just going to ‘label’ me as having a mental illness. (Having worked for some years in a Social Services setting, I’m fully aware of the stigma that’s still attached to those who do have mental health issues.)
I’m not expert on the matter, but I see your grandpa’s appearance as him letting you know that he’s still around you, though I can’t explain why he would choose to sit on your chest.
It seems that, in my case, the sleep paralysis is due to a symptom of my having narcolepsy … falling asleep inappropriately. I was offered steroid treatments, but was informed that there was a possible contraindication against one of the steroids that I’ve been taking for some years now for an unrelated medical condition. I decided that because I don’t experience the sleep paralysis that frequently I could manage without extra medications. Sorry, the name of the steroid was never revealed to me.
I’m not sure what to advise you on whether you should see a psychologist or therapist as you seem, from what you’ve written, to have only experienced sleep paralysis on one occasion. It may, however, be advisable for you to see a psychologist/therapist/grief counsellor [counselor] if you’re experiencing difficulty in coming to terms with the loss of your grandpa.
Whatever you decide to do, I wish you the very best of luck for a long, happy, sleep paralysis-free life.
Edit:
I’m not sure that I agree with Jedi Baptist about sleep paralysis being a gateway (doorway) to lucid dreaming. I practice lucid dreaming, and I can tell you that it’s nothing like sleep paralysis.
