Non-monotheists, your advice please?

I have been a reluctant Christian for 30 of my 43 years, starting when my hideous “parents” convinced me that I would burn in hell forever. I have spent a long, long time hating Yahweh. I’ve slipped into a suicidal depression recently (don’t worry, getting therapy and meds and have friends). One of the myriad things preying on my mind is this fear of hell. I’ve been out here obsessively over the last couple of nights trying to purge something.
Just a few minutes ago I was sitting here writing, as usual, and hating Yahweh, as usual, and for a reason I don’t understand, stopped myself and just talked to myself out loud: “That thing right there, the thing that you’re hating, isn’t real.” I said stuff like that to myself a few more times. I think that something big might be about to happen for me.
So, non-monotheists, I’m a spiritual guy, so give me some quick blurbs about your spirituality to give me some ideas of where I might land. I’m excited. I might even hug a tree, so pagans feel free to chime in.
Oh, the reason I was talking to myself might have been an herbal sort of reason.
peetr, you lose in the making-up-new-commandments game! I like trees A LOT!

  1. U WONT GO TO HELL, U WILL BE BORN IN SOME OTHER PART OF TIME, BUT U WONT EVEN REMEBER THIS LIFE
THERE IS NO HEAVEN AND HELL
IT IS BEST TO LIVE IN THE PRESENT AND NOT WORRY ABOUT YOUR PAST OR FUTURE

  2. Hey, your chains are being broken! You are about to step into the sunlight of freedom. No one can tell you what to do next. Get rid of the idea that you need someone to give you instructions. Just be yourself and things will fall into place. You are free!! Scary, maybe … for a while. But beautiful.

  3. Good luck to you. Please read your middle paragraph again. You are literally lying to yourself in order to feel better about something you are doing.
What are you missing that you currently don’t have?

  4. Hmm. I always believed I was agnostic but i do get an enormous amount of good feelings and wanting to belong to the Jehovah’s witness’s who come calling so maybe we both not totally anti-religion yet

  5. “My philosophy, in essence, is the concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity, and reason as his only absolute.”

  6. Ok, big bore, repeat after me; I shall not believe in made up deities. I don’t have to fear made up people or made up places. There isn’t a hell place, this place is certainly bad enough, I don’t need to believe in a worse one.
Oh, and feel free to hug a tree, just don’t try to marry it, or fornicate with it.

  7. my parents tried to ram islam down my throat as well. i never believed in hell so i never could be afraid of something i didnt believe in. u gotta find urself brother. as long as ur a good person and arent out to hurt people its all good :). religion is just a way for the sheep of society to gain comfort for the unknown. no one knows what happens after death and no one wants to embrace it. if we live our lives fully and with no regrets what happens after is just another part of life 🙂 i believe in myself and what i can accomplish not what a god or yahweh or allah can do for me. The world is full of people who need soalce and comfort and religion is an excellent way for that and also offers structure to hopless lifestyles. theirs nuthing wrong with it but its just not me and seems to me its not u either. good luck my friend. may u be tru to urself and find what ur really looking for 🙂
