Isn't it true that “One who, possessing desire, represses desire, is living a lie.”?

Below are some more quotes from the Candamaharosana Tantra.
“The man sees the woman as a goddess. The woman sees the man as a god. By joining the diamond scepter and lotus, they should make sacrifices to each other. There is no worship apart from this.”
“Therefore, one who desires Buddhahood should practice what is to be practiced. To renounce the sense objects, is to torture oneself by asceticism – don’t do it!
When you see form, look!
Similarly, listen to sounds,
Inhale scents,
Taste delicious flavors,
Feel textures.
Use the objects of the five senses –
You will quickly attain supreme Buddhahood.”
“Constantly take refuge at my feet, my dear …
Be gracious, beloved, and give me pleasure with your diamond scepter.
Look at my three-petaled lotus, its center adorned with a stamen.
It is a Buddha paradise, adorned with a red Buddha,
A cosmic mother who bestows bliss and tranquility on the passionate.
Abandon all conceptual thought and unite with my reclining form;
Place my feet upon your shoulders and look me up and down.
Make the fully awakened scepter enter the opening in the center of the lotus. Move a hundred, thousand, hundred thousand times in my three-petaled lotus of swollen flesh.”
‘Who will go to heaven and who to hell?
Insofar as beings die with a poisoned imagination
Those who are free of the power of poison go to heaven
And those who faint away under the power of poison go to hell.
Thus ignorant people go to heaven or hell,
While the wise, totally comprehending,
Attain nirvana.
But if nirvana is taken as mere emptiness,
Like a lamp after a gust of wind,
This nihilism, like the paths of reward and retribution,
Brings enlightenment no closer.
Abandoning all such preoccupations, then,
The aspirant should devote himself to me,
And undoubtedly he will be granted power and awareness,
The powers of Candamaharosana, instantaneously.’
Tantra isn’t concerned about conditioning it’s “how” things really are. To live in truth is to be Tantric, it’s not called the “rocket-ship of enlightenment” for nothing.

There are natural desires and then there are taught desires (conditioning).

  4. If this is true, then I certainly don’t want to live in a society where people live the truth. Imagine a society where everyone always acted on their urges. People would skip work because they “felt like” sleeping in. Rapists and pedophiles would be free to act out their sexual fantasies because they didn’t want to “live a lie”.

    Here is what Jesus Christ had to say about making sex one’s god.
    Mat 5:28 – But I say unto you, That whosoever looks on a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart.
    And here is what God’s disciple Paul had to say about those who make sex their god.

    The point of the quote you used is that you can’t get rid of attachment by repressing it. Even if repressed enough for social or legal purposes, it still warps your view of the world. This makes the cycle of unskillful action and suffering get even worse.
    While, just for safety and a peaceful environment, you are suppressing the more troublesome actions that these attachments can lure you into, try to pay close and unbiased attention to the desires. See how desire actually feels, watch how they lead you to unwise and unsafe decisions, and soon they will fall away. The desire for goods, for example, will be seen as a mistaken attempt to fulfill the desire for peace and happiness. When you see this for yourself, and understand how desires actually are what disturbs your peace and happiness, then you can relax into the Buddha-nature.

  7. To answer the main question without regard to the “quotes”:
    The only way is to simply LIVE WITH desire.
    I desire ice cream right now but its not good for me to have it at this time so I don’t. This does not make m y life a lie and dropping everything to go buy a pint of Haagen Daas does not put me on the rocket to Buddhatown, either.
    I have my own ideas about that old saying, which is was coined because certain people decided that we lived in a time that was too degraded for people to grow to an enlightened state. This does not mean everyone should take the rocket or that the rocket is for everyone.
    I’m split on this here “quote”.I agree with most of it because it describes and advocates a middle way, a moderation, rather than a mad rush to everything that gives pleasure. The quote has kind of a grafted feel, like two different ideas from two different places were put together. The parts about the lotus flower and the scepter is just mediocre poerty and it really says nothing at all. Take the flowers from the bouquet and what do you have? The rest of the “quotes” like I said I agree with but I don’t understand how they go with the main question.
    I suppose to each their own but this whole sex for instant power thing just leaves me confused as to what it all has to do with any spiritual ideas.
    Maybe the Bon of Tibet but I don’t know enough about it yet.

    Shouldnt everyone choose to live this way? To me that is perfectly normal as is the reference to the lotus and scepter.
    Anyone who is not living and enjoying every moment with all five(six?) senses is living a life unfulfilled

  13. All desires are conditioned, some are residued in your previous lifes which you call as natural, and others are recent, which you call conditioned. but the truth is all desires are conditioned now or before.
    how can there be desires in state of complete satisfaction. how can there be desire in state of completion.
    The basic so called “desire” itself rises out of a state which is less than satisfaction and completeness.
    creating desires, and suppressing them is living lie, living with desires by satisfying them is being slaves to them without freedom.

    the true essence of tantra is using different approach to dissolve the desires of the body, so called natural, which are created in previous manifestations of you.
    but today in name of this, instead of freeing from desires of body, the mechanism of tantra is used to create more impressions. very dangerous thing happening. if one practices tantra truly, than no new desires are created, and old existing so called natural desires are satisfied and remaining burnt or detached.

  14. Yes that is true, as you can see most have forgotten the body is Divine, in oneness the body with all its functions is included. So many are lost in emptiness or hoping for a better future because they do not know themselves. Namaste

    And not just living with lie!
    Repressing, actually multiplies it enormously, and resurfaces pushing aside all our efforts to negate it, and also eroding all our gains towards even understanding the truth beyond those ‘desires’ !
    The only way is to resolve it conclusively, transcending desire, understanding the true nature of desire, its cause, its root etc.
    Awareness at very deep levels enables us with this capability.
    We have to consciously move towards a state of ‘choicelessness’ whereby all our desires known & unknown, hidden, latent etc, surface by itself, and just dissolve. Perhaps, dissolution of ‘karma’ too is what they mean by it.
