Is there such thing as a 'good' witch? And if so,how do i create my own witch initiation?

Ive heard of witchcraft and i always thought it was only used for evil. But i found spells that can be used for good, and i wondered. Is there such thing as a ‘GOOD’ witch?Ive always wanted to be a witch, but didn’t want to use any evil things. Also,if there is such thing of a good witch, how do i create my own witch initiation?

  1. Actual magic is a celebration of the universe, if you actually think that anything can be gained by magic, you are watching far too much television.
Wiccan and Pagan rituals are used to mark the calendar, give thanks and praise the four elements, that’s all.

  2. sure there is. read Wicca: A guide for the solitary practitioner by Scott Cunningham. i loved it!
IM me if you want to.

  3. A “good witch” is one who uses her craft as a “good person.” That is, she does not seek to harm or control others, she uses her craft for the benefit of herself and those around her, and generally tries to leave the world a little bit better than she found it.
As for how your create your own “witch initiation”–you don’t need to. Witchcraft is not a religion, it’s a craft, a practice. You don’t become initiated when you decide to take up painting or pottery or woodworking–you just start learning, and you get better with practice.
Edit: There are a lot of people answering who are looking at Wicca and witchcraft as the same thing. They are not. Witchcraft is a practice. Wicca is a religion. There is a LOT of overlap–most Wiccans are witches as well, and many witches are Wiccan, but they are not always the same thing.

  4. The Wiccan Rede
    (Full Version)
Bide within the Law you must, in perfect Love and perfect Trust.
Live you must and let to live, fairly take and fairly give.
For tread the Circle thrice about to keep unwelcome spirits out.
To bind the spell well every time, let the spell be said in rhyme.
Light of eye and soft of touch, speak you little, listen much.
Honor the Old Ones in deed and name,
let love and light be our guides again.
Deosil go by the waxing moon, chanting out the joyful tune.
Widdershins go when the moon doth wane,
and the werewolf howls by the dread wolfsbane.

Heed the North winds mighty gale, lock the door and trim the sail.
When the Wind blows from the East, expect the new and set the feast.
When the wind comes from the South, love will kiss you on the mouth.
When the wind whispers from the West, all hearts will find peace and rest.

When you have and hold a need, harken not to others greed.
With a fool no season spend or be counted as his friend.

Be true in love this you must do unless your love is false to you.
These Eight words the Rede fulfill:
“An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will”

  5. There is definitely such a thing as a good witch. As a matter of fact, I have yet to meet a bad one.
I would first suggest studying. Lots and lots of studying. That way you know exactly what you’re doing and have at least a decent understanding of it.
I don’t believe that there is an initiation required, but you can always create your own if you feel the need. If I were in your place, I would suggest:
1._) Choose a favorite spot and find a time of day/night that is to your liking and plan to hold your initiation then. Don’t forget to plan for the weather as well.
2._) Take a long bath. Add some homemade salts or herbs to cleanse yourself completely for the upcoming event. Maybe even clear your mind/meditate on your current goal for awhile.
3._) After you’re done, dress in some comfortable clothes. They can be as simple as a cloak or just some jeans and a shirt. It could even be nothing at all!
4._) Go to your spot that you choose earlier. Maybe burn some incense, or get some favorite herbs or flowers to surround yourself with.
5._) Say a dedication to your chosen Path aloud. Dedicate yourself to the elements, or whatever you feel you need to to complete your initiation.
That’s just MY idea. I’ve never been to an initiation before, nor been initiated myself. You can also check out http://witchvox.com/ for more ideas on initiations and witchcraft in general.
    Good luck & blessed be!

  6. Of course there is. Well, actually, it’s all about intentions. In Wicca, the spells themselves are not good or bad- you choose to use them for good or for bad reasons.
Off you go and read some books about Wicca. Not every Wiccan believes in spells as things that work specifically- some believe that it is the act of ritual or the state of mind they give you that makes them work rather than magick (it’s spelled with a k on the end in this context). There are lots of things to learn and lots of paths to take if you decide that it might be for you.

  7. There is no such thing as a “Good” witch or “Bad” witch, just like there is no such thing as a “Good” Christian or “Bad” christian, or “Good” carpenter or “Bad” carpenter (unless you’re referring to his handiwork).
A Witch is a Witch, they do what they do, like everyone else in the world. They choose to be beneficial to others and themselves, or they choose to do harmful things. It’s all free will. If they want to do something they’re free to do it, but they must take into consideration the end result. Can they live with it?
If you want to be a Witch, go ahead…but don’t label yourself with non-existant labels that service only to separate you into a category. Leave that to categoy makers. YOU choose how you want to craft…YOU. If you want your craft to be beneficial, go ahead.
And a Witch “Dedicates” themselves to a craft, initiations are for covens. But even then, as a solitary, it’s not really necessary. If you want one, it doesn’t need to be elaborate, light a candle, make a declaration that you want to live your life devoted to the craft, and there you go.
EDIT: Hairypotto – what was the point on posting the entire Wiccan Rede??? Not all Witches are Wiccan, and not all witches follow the Wiccan rede, Nor do all witches believe in the “Threefold Law”.
