I was watching Elegant Universe and according to one of the scientists string theory had anomalies which included prediction of massless particle or tachyon. There’s no physical proof for it. It’s a mathematical novelty that may have some meaning or it could be just byproduct of incomplete theory.

Theoretically there is no law which forbids their existence. The proponents of Tachyon Hypothesis argue that the velocity of light is a double sided limit. There could be three kinds of particles. Particles which travel only with speed of light and are called photons. Then other particles who have non zero rest mass which can travel only with speeds lesser than that of light; and the third kind which can travel only with speeds higher than that of light. Their rest mass is supposed to be imaginary. But this does not forbid their existence because these particles require infinite force… Read more »

It’s just a theory. Because only certain particles can travle the speed of light such as a Photon. But a Tachyon has no particles.

They are strictly theoretical.

There is evidence, but no “proof,” just like there is no proof that black holes exist (i.e. no one has ever seen one).

no proof as yet

no freakin way! nothing can travel faster than the speed of light. that is, without disintegrating.

“Tachyon?” Physics?

There is no scientific proof yet.
Nothing says they can’t exist, but
as we are unable to measure something
faster than the speed of light, it is not possible
for us to determine if they exist.
