Is there a difference between Non-believer and Athiest?

LMAO sorry I am so slow -_-”
But I am part of a Shamanism religion, but sometimes I feel more like someone who wouldn’t believe in anything because Spirits? seems kinda crazy lol but whatever…
any differences? and what should I use in my essay?
“though I sometimes feel like a non-believer type person”
or
“though I sometimes feel like an Athiest type person”
and no ignorant comments thank you….. [:
Rowan] I am of a Hmong type Shamanism religion, might be different from what you think I guess?

  1. Yes. Atheism means someone who has no belief in any deities.
The term non-believer is usually used when people refer to others who do not share the same religion as them.

  2. Non-believer: Anyone who doesn’t believe in what the speaker believes.
Atheist: A person who does not believe in the existence of gods.

  3. I personally use them interchangeably, it doesn’t sound has harsh as the word “atheist,” though more than just atheists can be called non believers depending on the context.

  4. “But I am part of a Shamanism religion, but sometimes I feel more like someone who wouldn’t believe in anything because Spirits? seems kinda crazy lol but whatever…”
Pardon, but which Shamanic *religion* are you part of? A Shaman is a Shaman. And you do not sound like one (no offense intended, just stating based on your comment)
A non-believer could be anyone regarding a specific God for instance (most Christians call non-believers ANYONE who doesn’t believe in the Abrahamic God)
An atheist just doesn’t believe in any deity due to lack of evidence

  5. Hello 🙂
Yes there is a huge difference 🙂
Applying the term “non-believer” to someone would suggest that they do not believe in anything, and only accept what can be proven. Atheism is only the disbelief in a deity(s), atheists can believe in other, non-religious things 🙂
    Peace 🙂

  6. omg chou when did you get suspended?? I didn’t even realize and then I saw you asked this and I was like “That bitch blocked me!!” but then I realized you didn’t and I thought “Aww he’s actually really cool…”
    lol
Anyway, I’d say go with skeptic. Sounds better if you say “Though I sometimes feel like a skeptic…”
    XD

  7. The term “non-believer” is vague. It needs to be backed up with something, eg. “non-believer of Santa Claus” .. you can’t really just say “non-believer”. Unless it’s obvious of course, like you’re in a Catholic church and someone screams out, “SHUN THE NON-BELIEVER!”
An atheist is someone who doesn’t believe in any god of any sort.

  8. It depends
Non_believer can mean ppl who don’t believe in ur religion
while atheists don’t believe in religion
    ^^
    Byaa!
