Is the book of Revelation a mystical text?

Could it be they were telling us about meditation, etc.?

  1. Its one of many Gnostic books that helped formulate Christianity before the Romans Literalized it.

  2. The book of Revelation is a Christian text of Bible prophecy, and is understood by comparing the prophetic symbols in the book of Daniel.

  3. Could be…
    Given the fact that starvation can cause hallucinations possible, or perhaps they ate mushrooms when they wrote it, or simply drank too much wine, it could be prophecy or fantasy.

  4. All I can tell you is that correlation doesn’t equal causation. And that in the first printings of the Bible, it was removed and later put in the back.

  5. Revelation was just a coded text that John sent out to Christian churches while he was in exile to tell them to remain strong despite being persecuted. It isn’t really predicting the future, nor is it any kind of spiritual text. Bible scholars have known this for years.

  6. no its not a mystical text
    no it has nothing to do with meditation
    it is the plan of God to put a end to Sin and bring in his kingdom of righteousness.

  7. I think that revelation is best understood if you have studied initiatic science. I believe that the 144000 speaks of full awakening or enlightenment. Time will tell, it is good to meditate on certain verses out of it , use them as a focal point (so to speak).

  8. It’s certainly takes a lot of understanding, and I’m not sure how well mankind has interpreted God’s meaning. However, the English translation of Revelation in the King James Version of the Bible is a fantastic example of high quality English literature. Inspirational and praiseworthy for that fact alone.

  9. I’m going with the interpretation that it was one example of the apocalyptic writings which were popular at the time. I think it’s a diatribe against Roman rule, written in a code that the Jews understood.

  10. Get a good Bible (New Revised Standard Version is best) with a decent commentary and you will find that John’s book is a letter sent to specific churches at a time when they were undergoing persecution. He couches all his words in symbols, taking up the language of apocalyptic books like Daniel, so that the faithful readers know what he’s saying, but the uninformed miss the point.
    Thus when Romans read his text, they didn’t know he was talking about them, and the fundamentalists of today don’t do any better, sorry to say.
    Those churches were undergoing terrible persecution, and John is telling them to stand firm in their faith. Rome is evil and they are in control now, but this control is of evil and it cannot last. Through it all, God is watching and will redeem his elect.
    There was an ongoing argument that Rev was too weird to accept as a part of the Bible, and indeed it is a weird book.
    What mad the Church Fathers decide to keep it?
    Passages like this one:
    [The Multitude from Every Nation]
    Revelation 7:9-17: After this I looked, and there was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, robed in white, with palm branches in their hands. They cried out in a loud voice, saying,
    “Salvation belongs to our God who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb!”
    And all the angels stood around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, singing,
    “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom
    and thanksgiving and honor
    and power and might
    be to our God forever and ever! Amen.”
    Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, “Who are these, robed in white, and where have they come from?”
    I said to him, “Sir, you are the one that knows.”
    Then he said to me, “These are they who have come out of the great ordeal; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
    For this reason they are before the throne of God,
    and worship him day and night within his temple,
    and the one who is seated on the throne will shelter them.
    They will hunger no more, and thirst no more;
    the sun will not strike them,
    nor any scorching heat;
    for the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd,
    and he will guide them to springs of the water of life,
    and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”
    Those words are very frequently read as we pray for a loved one who has gone through the fiery trial of a long illness, and now rests with his or her ancestors. It affirms that on the other side is The One who will heal us of all diseases and hold us in an eternal embrace of purest love. and wipe every tear from our eyes.
    That is a reason they kept it.

  11. Everyone;
    Read “A METAPHYSICAL INTERPRETATION OF THE BIBLE” by Steven L. Hairfield. At least find his website and view his video about the book. He deals with the seven churches/seals/messages/candlestick of Revelation as well. It is a true eye-opener.
