Is seeing a psychic against the Catholic religion?

My grandma just died and my mom wants to talk to her. She is interested in seeing a psychic medium (the ones that can speak with the dead) but she is worried that it may be against the religion. We are not seeking witches or doing palm readings, etc. only speaking to the dead.
Is this against the Catholic religion and if so, why? God gave the gift, but you’re not supposed to use it?

The Bible warns against mediums

Wolfgang M

It’s an abomination!

It might not be, but it sure is stupid and a waste of money.

It’s not just the Catholic religion that warns against it.

Chief David M

I really do not think that is allowed in our Church. How do you know that this psychic is really talking to your Grandmother in Heaven?

Just KEN

And how does the Psychic, know any better than anyone else where Heaven is. I study both sides of many things this is just one of them.

yep because psychic readings are based on black magic and voodoo, strictly against the bible and pope

Yes spiritualism/necromancy is against the doctrines of the church and is a sin.
Usually the so called medium is not a Catholic and so does not care about the churches teachings or your committing of sin,and if they are Catholic then they are in serious error and more so by aiding others to comit sin with them.
Short answer is do not do it `period`.
God bless.

Scripture clearly defines death many times as “asleep and knowing nothing” so it would be mute to believe it’s actually Grandma or whoever? for it would be satan and he is a liar/deciever….God Bless and don’t consider this, you will see her soon at the 2nd Coming

miss music

yes, yes, yes, yes yes. its against catholicism

IDK about the Catholic Church….but it is a sin against God. Psychics powers come from Satan…he is the great impostor.

Cathloics believe that excersing psychic abilities can be dangerous. Visiting a psychic allows the pyschic to excersise their abilities. I do not think that they are considered witchcraft.
I do not think that physic abilities are witchcraft. I think that they are base abilities of the soul and should not be used until we reach the Spiritual Worlds of God because they can damage our growth in this world. Prayers are very good for seeking communion with the dead. Try to say many different prayers as they can reach your grandma differently.

It is my belief, for what that maybe worth that are past love one’s are always near by in some way, and if it was in God’s intent that his world should have a connection with this one. He would have told us more revealingly through his son are
Lord Jesus, whilst he had the chance to. There is mention of the holy Spirit, and any other Spirit is seemingly revered to as demonic. Perhaps that is because they are illusions placed with in are minds by the deceptiveness of the evil one.
As we are meant to only accept, JESUS as the first and only
to have conquered death.

Sacra Veritas

First Commandment: It would be just the same as seeing a “witch”, or doing palm readings. Why? Well, it’s not a gift from God to begin with. It is idolatry.

Absurd N

The correct question should be “what does the Triune God who gave us the Bible say about mediums?”
The answer to that question is God doesn’t like it. it is a sin. One of the reasons for king Saul’s death was … he consulted a medium the night before his death.
Remember it is not about any religion it is about what the true God thinks, if you care.

It is practically trying to take God’s hand out of the universe and trying to put yours or a spirit’s back in it’s place. It’s VERY dangerous and should be avoided at all costs as it does not conform to God’s plan for us. Only a saint can work miracles and not magic/psychics, because they are not in things for their own personal gain and have been chosen by God. His work is done through them, not by them
Would you trust anyone, living or dead, but God to govern your life and the life of your loved ones? Would you trust anyone, living or dead, aside from God to understand the deepest workings of the universe and how events may unfold? Would you let anyone, living or dead, especially someone who seeks money or other physical things, handle the spiritual affairs of your life?
God’s kingdom is very well watched over and there is no need for us or anyone else to assume his place and use these powers. Christ came to give us life and give it to us abundantly. Saints are appointed because they too give their lives to give us new life. It takes immense willpower to be able to overcome all our natural instincts and desires for the good of others.

Who said God gave the gift?,it has been proven time and time again that these so called mediums are fake and con artists playing on the emotions of the bereaved.

A psychic medium gives satan an entry to the soul who disobeys God’s law.
In Pope Benedict XVI’ book Jesus of Nazareth, he describes how God holds the future and we are called to trust or have faith in God. Consulting a medium is therefore a rejection of God.
God made all that is good, and satan who envies man’s ability to enjoy heaven, perverts gifts. We have the ability to gain merit by faith in God over mediums, and to grow in faith by prayer and fellowship.
Your mother may benefit from praying with someone and talking to them about her loss. In the book, Miracles Do Happen, Sr. Briege McKenna describes many things and could possibly help your mother. Her email is on this link:

DIVINATION – The art of knowing and declaring future events or hidden things by means of communication with occult forces. It is always an act of a religious nature. There is no divination if the religious element is missing, as in any scientific investigation. The occult forces in divination are always created rational powers that the Church identifies as diabolical. Implicit in this judgment is the belief that neither God nor the spiritual powers friendly to God would lend themselves to frivolous practices or subject themselves to any evoking human force. Hence, evoking these powers, whether explicitly or even implicitly, is considered an appeal to Satan’s aid. It is therefore a grave offense against God to attribute to the devil a sure knowledge of the contingent future, which, as depending on free will, is known to God alone.
This explains the strong prohibition in the Bible of any divining practices. “Do not have recourse,” the people were told, “to the spirits of the dead or to magicians; they will defile you. I am Yahweh your God” (Leviticus 19:31). And again: “Any man or woman who is necromancer or magician must be put to death by stoning; their blood shall be on their own heads” (Leviticus 20:27).
In the history of christianity every form of divination has been condemned by the Church. Among the more common are augury (Latin augurare, to predict) by the interpretation of omens such as watching the flight of birds or inspecting the entrails of sacrificed animals; axinomancy (Greek axine, axhead + manteia, divination) by means of the movements of an ax placed on a post; belomancy (Greek belos, dart) by drawing arrows at random from a container; bibliomancy (Greek biblion, book) by superstitiously consulting books, notably the Bible; capnomancy (Greek kapnos, smoke) by studying the ascent and descent of smoke and concluding that it was a good omen if the smoke rose vertically, especially from a sacrifice; chiromancy (Greek cheir, hand) by inspecting the lines of the hand, also called palmistry; necromancy (Greek necros, dead person) by consulting the dead or conjuring up the souls of the dead to inquire of them some secrets from the past or into the future, more commonly known as spiritualism. (Etym. Latin devinare, to foresee, predict, prophesy.)
The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches:
2116 All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to “unveil” the future. Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone.
2117 All practices of magic or sorcery, by which one attempts to tame occult powers, so as to place them at one’s service and have a supernatural power over others – even if this were for the sake of restoring their health – are gravely contrary to the virtue of religion. These practices are even more to be condemned when accompanied by the intention of harming someone, or when they have recourse to the intervention of demons. Wearing charms is also reprehensible. Spiritism often implies divination or magical practices; the Church for her part warns the faithful against it. Recourse to so-called traditional cures does not justify either the invocation of evil powers or the exploitation of another’s credulity.
2138 Superstition is a departure from the worship that we give to the true God. It is manifested in idolatry, as well as in various forms of divination and magic.

ok idk what it says jn the bible but i am a catholic and I do know many psychics and I don’t idolize them. They have an amazing god given gift I believe. If u do choose to see one you can always go to confession after I guess lol idk I ain’t no priest

No. Catholic psychologists do exist and there are a lot of psychic Catholics who help people through psychology with the help of the Lord above.
But in albeit-quietness.
Many of these ordinary people do not understand what the Catholic means when it says that Christians should not believe in psychicism.
There are different types and as long as you find the way to do everything and if that is what you feel that God is telling you to do/is best to do/you that you are allowed to do, then do it 🙂
Yes, God has given all of us humans a 6th sense but only some of us have it fully as a natural talent- just like having a natural talent for singing etc. But everybody can do it if they try really hard and are committed to it. Just don’t go the wrong way- the devil’s way.
The relationship of and between Catholics/Christians and Psychology is still ever-evolving. Who knows, in the near future, the Catholic church may allow it under some circumstances.
Just like how they used to think that a dying sick inncoent baby would go to hell after if died if it was not baptised. But that is wrong- why would God, Our Father, send an innocent baby to hell, straight after its death, when it had done no sin except to come into His world?
Please do not believe just anyone- trust yourself!
I should not even be daring to think this but do not listen to priests if they say believing in psychicism should never be done. You must listen to God, Our Father.

OK first forget catholic religion…it’s evil so is the pope, because I think john paul the 2nd said don’t pray to God pray to me instead…Psychics do exist…not in california psychics, thoose are gypsies…but take a look at a book called Mental Radio…and read who wrote the preface. If Psychics were fake then why did U.S.A and U.S.S.R use them?? why did they try to copy there gift and force it to normal people? why are there books on how to become a psychic? Well A clairvoyant was looking for me and answered all these questions…In the cold war psychics were tortured to leak the info…in which the will not give…but the leaked the future…the government pissed there panties…so they decided to make more fake psychics so people wouldn’t believe they are real…thus killing them…why? cause if a psychic doesn’t help people there gift slowly fades away…BUT WHY!! well psychics are made by God…yes mine told me few choose black magic and yeah that’s evil right there, but the truth is…religion fears them…so do the government…as for catholic religion…it’s evil man the rape kids and shit and the faggot pope tries to cover it up…oh if you want to know if your psychic is real, look for a small scar on the white part of there eye…Don’t be fooled by religion all they want is global control…oh yeah the holy grail and the robe Jesus wore is hidden somewhere in France by the jesuits, the knights of templar or kinghts of columbia…

You are truly misinformed and evil is seeping through you. Yes there are many organizations that have sinned against children and God. John Paul II never never said pray to me in lieu of God. Get it straight before you start spouted off.
