Is Psychic Awareness Gained By Coming Into Consciousness Or By Losing Consciousness?

Spiritual religions such as the Buddhists, acclaimed authors like Deepak Chopra and theories based on Quantum physics support the possibility of telepathy, astral projection and other psychic phenomenon. However, these same experiences are also claimed by the most severely mentally ill and by individuals under the influence of hardcore illicit drugs. Is psychic awareness gained by coming into consciousness or by losing consciousness? Or are the two instances different occurrences of the same phenomenon? Please explain.
I am simply providing examples and do not agree or disagree with anything set forth. I am searching for an answer. Having never done drugs, been mentally ill or experienced ‘spiritual awareness’ I wanted to understand how theses same groups all experience such things as telepathy and astral projection etc–also none of which I’ve experienced. Thank you!
Jon Seisa: The entire Buddhist religion would disagree with you.

  1. Psychic awareness (of truth, rather than illusions imposing as truth) is a state of advanced understanding, whereby things that are normally hidden to the human consciousness are revealed. Drugs do not actually elevate thought to levels of understanding. People with mental anomalies are able to experience things that “normal” thought can’t, because they are not under the influence of preconceived limitations.

  2. I’m sorry to be the one to break the news to you, but there isn’t much awareness at all, psychic or otherwise, when someone is unconscious (lost of consciousness).

  3. Quantum physics supports no such thing, except to a new age misinterpretation of the theories of quantum physics. I see no reason to press a scientific finding, incorrectly, into your view on ” psychic awareness “.

  4. I have the same question.
The only way to find this answer is by experience the unconscious (no-mind).
Some drugs can help to reach the no-mind(if you know how to use them), but can be also very dangerous, and do more bad than good.
To reach the psychic awareness of the “Buddhists” you don´t need to be a Buddhist nor even have any religion, all you have to do is meditate.Once you have experienced the no-mind(which is not easy) ,then you can decide if that is really an superstate of awareness, another level of intelligence,OR in another place it is just another mind state similar to hypnosis.

  5. To tell you the truth :
Psychic awareness and phenomena have nothing in common with true spiritualism.
    They are entirely different things.
So a psychic is usually quite different from a true spiritual person.
One who chases psychic things is usually not spiritual or he or she loses grounds on spiritualism. Psychic things are usually considered “obstacles” in a truly spiritual path unless they support spiritual progress in someway.
In the spirtitual path it is not considered good for one to crave for extraordinary experiences or skills. Neither it is considered good to demonstrate or indulge in psychic or extraordinary matters.
So psychics are anyway not regarded highly in any true spiritual path.
Sometimes some highly spiritual person gets some “Vibhooti” but that is different from psychics. [More explanation on how “Vibhooti” is different from psychic things can not be put on the public domain like Yahoo!Answers]
I hope I am able to explain the difference clearly.

  6. I believe we are all psychic, but for the majority the gift or the belief has been long knocked out of them. Educated out is another way of looking at it. Many professional psychics have grown up in a psychic friendly environment. Perhaps a grand-parent or parent with the knowledge has helped bring the extra sense out in the open and encouraged its use. But there are as many practicing psychics who have not had the benefit of caring psychic guidance and who have still managed to develop and hone this natural extra sense. The Psychic Sense.
