Is it unlucky to buy your own Buddha?

I want to buy one for my home but heard that it is unlucky unless someone else buys it? Is there any truth in this as I am a bit superstitious!

  1. Psalm 115:2 ” Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is now their God?
3 But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.
4 Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.
5 They have mouths, but they speak not: eyes have they, but they see not:
6 They have ears, but they hear not: noses have they, but they smell not:
7 They have hands, but they handle not: feet have they, but they walk not: neither speak they through their throat.
8 They that make them are like unto them; so is every one that trusteth in them.”

  2. I’ve had the same one riding on my dashboard for 23 yrs. and 8 cars (including a hearse with flames on the hood) with no major accidents.
    Co-incidence? I think not!

  3. Looking for one personally is like inviting and accepting Buddha personally into your home, why would it be unlucky? There isn’t any basis for this (unlucky). Go ahead and do it. It only shows your sincerity towards Buddha 🙂

  4. Don’t do that. Read your Bible and get some inspiration from there. Find a good story in there to focus on.
Try listening to a good CD. It is so kool The Crabb Family Live 2008 it is awesome!
    Very inspirational.
You will be amazed. I am sure.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, I appreciate it.

  5. Sure?
It’s unlucky to own an idol of Buddha?
    Sure?
Buddha was not Gautama who was an Indian back in the past?
Was he not dead and buried was long gone with time in the twilight zone?
Is it right for the living to idol worshipping the dead Mummy from someone else graveyards in messing up their grave with self lack of knowledge?
Was he not a dirty old man like you and me with self lack of knowledge too back in the past?
If his hear-say were so successful in life.
Then how come he left behind empty skeleton of skull and bones with two empty eye sockets in time?
Do we like to have others with self lack of knowledge too to hit us on the head with the Book of the Dead from someone else graveyards?
    Are we the human intelligent?
Not someone is making a monkey out of us with self lack of knowledge with the blind blindly following the blind in time?
When one is tribe of different community?
What is the definition of ghostly ancestor’s culture?
What is the definition of ghostly ancestor’s custom?
What is the definition of ghostly tradition of individual community?
    What is worshiping God?
What is idol worshiping the dead Mummy from someone else graveyards?
    What is adoring?
    What is admiring?
What is idol worshiping past dirty old man with self lack of knowledge like you and me from the twilight zone getting kick on the butts by the dead?
Who were still primitive in their monkey suit hanging upside down still living in caves in the twilight zone blind as a bat in different time zone in time?
Who’s the educated iidiots with self lack of knowledge in different time zone?
    Luke 6.39-40,41-45,46-49
    What do you think?

  6. There are fourteen rupas (statues) that I currently “rent” (in my practice we do not say we *buy* a rupa since that would imply permanence) and only one was “gifted” to me. The action of someone *gifting* a rupa is more auspicious since there is merit involved for both the giver and the recipient. Most of my rupas were rented by myself. The aspect in your question of “unlucky” and “superstition” are concepts which the Buddha taught against (see http://www.accesstoinsight.org/tipitaka/dn/dn.11.0.than.html#drawbacks ). The purpose of a rupa as I understand is to assist you during meditation–to calm your mind, to bring you to a point of focus, to represent an aspect naturally within each of us to which one should aspire–no luck, no “rubbing the belly”, or other superstitions. So, if you’ve found a rupa that brings a sense of calm and introspection to you, then by all means “rent” it yourself. It’s the intention behind the action that is most important.
    May all be at peace.
    John
