Is it possible that my kitten is blind as it has'nt opened its eyes yet ?

My three kittens are 13 days old, they’re meant to open their eyes at 10 days and then by two weeks are able to see fully. Two of the kittens opened their eyes 2 days ago but the third hasnt. Im worried that it could be blind. Also the kitten that has still not opened its eyes was the first to be born and i wasnt around to watch the birth and the other two kittens births were supervised. Any one have any experiance ?

  1. No, i dont believe it is blind but however take her to the vet or weight for two more days i think its normal wait two more days then take it to the vet

  2. Just leave it for a few days the eyes opening at ten days is just a guide and isnt a definite thing like periods arent always every 28 days.
this cat might just be a bit late but it should naturaly open its eyes soon. and if a cat is blind its eyes would still be open it just wont be able to see normaly.

  3. He could just take a little longer than the other two. The 10 days is just a guide line, every living thing is different. Just like it takes some babies longer to walk, or talk than others. I have two newborn kittens at home that I am fostering, arent they just the cutest, sweetest little guys ever? =)

  4. I’ve lived on a farm for about 10 years. We’ve been accidentally breeding barn cats for about the same amount of time. Trust me, if you want experience, i have it.
We let the cats do their thing and we dont bother them. They know how to be cats, and we know how to be humans. If your kitten hasn’t opened his eyes yet, its no cause for concern. Ours took between 10 and 17 days. Give it time. If he was blind, his eyes would have still opened. He could be opening them later because of a genetic thing or because its just not time yet.
I’ve only supervised seven births in the last three years and I have not noticed anything strange. Births we have not supervised turned out fine, so dont worry.
If your kitten does not open his eyes, stops eating and starts acting strange(different than a young kitten should) bring him to the vet. It could possibly be something serious but it shouldn’t be.
    Good luck, hope i helped

    • Please get all fixed! I’ve heard if cats from same mother breed, the babies can be born blind or deaf or worse. why would ANYONE let babies suffer, think of them as a human!! SAD!!

  5. It is very un likely but i would pick her up and try opening her eyes my cousins friends cats took 5 weeks to open their eyes and are not blind. if you get to worried about it then take her to the vets and they will soon tell you. It may even be siamese because they were and did you know that cats can have a different dad to every cat in that litter. You may have a siamese baby. hope shes ok and look after that eye. on other thought it may have an infection bathe the eye in warm water it will heal. I do the same with my pets and its fine to bathe them.

  6. Different breeds of cats open their eyes at different times.
Little moggy kitten usually open their eyes quite early, but any kitten that may have siamese or particularly burmese dont open their eyes sometimes up to10-12 days.
Your kittens may be moggies but may carry these traites.
Also try using a little warm water on cotton wool as kittens sometimes get infections in their eyes before they open or when they partially open.
This can cause blindness in kittens.
    All the best

  7. I do not really know whether or not your cat is blind, however with a previous litter of kittens i witnessed being born, they took nearly two weeks to open their eyes fully and none were blind.my own cat has been blind since birth and she opened her eyes fine and problems only surfaced as she got older.

  8. take to vet but it could just be that the eyes are glued you know when ya ill and you wake up in the morning and your eyelids are stuck together i mean like that try soaking with cotton wool and lukewarm water if thet dnt work take to vets

  9. my kittens all took different amounts of time to open.as long as the eyes are not gunky or pussy, scuse the pun, then it will open when its ready to,never try to force them as you could hurt them.if they dont open by 5 weeks see a vet.good luck.

  10. my kitten is only two months old,my mum was in the kitchen and the iron board was leaning against the wall, she jumped on it and it fell on her, we were crying our eyes out because we didn’t know if she was alive and there was blood everywhere. We think we might be blind or just temporarily, because she is still a little bit concussed. But i really hope she isnt because we love her so much and she doesnt know where she is going so we hope because her head is swollen still a little bit that she sight will come back. plz i need answers because i love my little kittens o muvh!
