Is conscience a product of the body?

or is it something that exists on the macro scale, binding us all, like a cosmic consciousness? Perhaps we just can’t perceive it (in normal, everyday, life) because of the restraints applied to us by our own ego. You do acknowledge that their are things out there that humans can’t perceive without technology? Like most of the spectrum of light, certain frequencies of sound, radio waves, electromagnetic fields, etc? These aren’t original thoughts at all, only an original writing of a long asked question. So which do you believe in and why? None of the above? Please explain.

EDIT – Please don’t copy and paste crap into this discussion. This requires actual thought and forming of sentences. And for the record, I’m not referring to anyone’s guilty feelings, just the awareness of one’s own existence.
You know, the five senses???
I realize now that I misspelled “conscious” in the title. It was supposed to read “consciousness”. I’m tired, oh well.

  1. Interesting take.
I suppose it could be outside? Consciousness is a strange thing after all. I have no idea how that could possibly be dIscovered though, much less explained.
I’ve never thought about it like that.

    yes. (to your first question)
and all those things you cited we can perceive through technology…. nothing yet has captured the supernatural tho…

  3. If the conscience is a product of the body then how come that most Nazi convicts at Nuremberg’s trial couldn’t recognize their guilt? Because they suppressed it by brain-washing and propaganda!

“Conscience is an aptitude, faculty, intuition, or judgment of the intellect that distinguishes right from wrong. Moral evaluations of this type may reference values or norms (principles and rules). In psychological terms conscience is often described as leading to feelings of remorse when a human does things that go against his/her moral values, and to feelings of rectitude or integrity when actions conform to such norms. The extent to which conscience informs moral judgment before an action and whether such moral judgments are, or should be, based wholly in reason has occasioned debate through much of the history of Western philosophy.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conscience
Here is a very interesting essay on conscience. http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:owGACyUpPjYJ:www.newadvent.org/summa/1079.htm+Is+Conscience+part+of+the+body+or+not%3F&cd=9&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=ie
